Another stat on TMS. Of 9 scores less than 100 in the last 2 years, Englabd have 4 of them.

It’s bloody hard to keep up my ABA supporting mantra for cricket when your mob is that bad. On the bright side Roy is improving exponentially.

Re: Cricket fred
Why do we keep collapsing?
Some of these players are more than decent batsmen. Also, this Aussie team is hardly vintage material...not taking anything away from them as they are making us look rather average, but it's not a Ponting, McGrath, Gilchrist, Waugh, Lee, Langer etc, etc squad. Smith is the best player in the world, but even without him, they look too good.
So, what's our problem? Why do so many of our players try to take on shots that are simply not on? There's not much you can do against bowling that catches you out, but this is test cricket. Why the fuck did Stokes play that?

This should, in theory, be the best day to bat. So there's light at the end of the tunnel, but it could just be an oncoming train

see this from George Dobell - https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id ... ken-system
"England's Test batting is painfully weak. Perhaps as weak as it has ever been. Unless the ECB have the courage to change the county structure - and yes, that includes backtracking on the monstrosity that is the white-ball window and accepting that the focus on The Hundred won't do a thing to help the Test team - it will keep happening"

Re: Cricket fred
Atherton saying in today’s times that the team's mentality and conscious tactic when losing wickets cheaply is to attack rather than try and stick around. Athers, obvs, thinks it’s a bad idea. Whether this tactic came first or batsmen incapable of playing a watchful innings, through talent or selection, therefore leading to this tactic being a necessity came first is a different debate to be had.fivepointer wrote:WaspInWales wrote:Why do we keep collapsing?

Re: Cricket fred
I think a number of them have had success with putting pressure back on a bowling side going on the attack, and far less success going a more disciplined route. So when you have that fraction of a second to line a ball up and judge length their instinctual movements get them into trouble, and it has to be instinctual given the time to act.
How we go from here to celebrating and rewarding an ability to lock down an end and occupy the crease I don't know. What is the incentive to change the thinking, and if not perhaps try to bat like Boycott then more reasonably try to ape the ethic of people like Kallis, Dravid, and even Atherton?

6 Aussies managed double figures and our top order struggle to see out a few balls.

No need to play at that on length, but hardly the worst wicket we've given away

Another good ball there that does for Roy. It's better than the tumble of the 1st innings at least

No complete obliteration now - even possible a defeat of less than 200 runs in sight ( headingleymiracle#2 notwithstanding..).

Just need Stokes to have some mega patience. Defend and leave with the occasional run would be good. Frustrate the Aussies! Make it to close without another loss and I may start believing [emoji1696]

We really need to learn how to bat in tests. We've got 2 whole days to get 203 runs, just don't do anything stupid, and take the freebies that frustrated bowlers leave out there.
I'd be happy to score another 150 for another 3 tomorrow - I fear see the remaining 203 with 7 in hand as a 40 over target, and we'll be all out by lunch, possible with less than 200 on the board

Fair play to Root and Denly, who dug in and showed the kind of application required.
We're in with a chance. I didnt expect that, so am grateful that we are still in the game.
200 more runs is still a big ask.

Why Joe? Why?
All that hard work yesterday. Not completely undone, but he threw that one away very cheaply. Great catch by Warner though tbf.

Re: Cricket fred
They're still getting my hopes up.
Bit worried that Barstow isolating a one-way innings with that strike rate, a quick 40 and out doesn't really help (IMO), it's patience we need. Or am I being unfair and Aux really are bowling that loosely, and those balls are all there to be taken advantage of?

We definitely need patience. We have enough time.Which Tyler wrote:They're still getting my hopes up.

Root walking down the wicket to take Lyon's 3rd delivery wasn't what you'd expect from a captain in these circumstances.
By all means, take on balls which are loose, but if there's any doubt, they gotta leave it.

Yeah. I thought the pundits were overtalking our chances way too much at close yesterday. We did well but we were miles away from winning.Puja wrote:It's the hope that gets you...

And now we're dropping wickets and relying on Stokes and the tail for 100 runs.
Could be worse than Stokes out there though and Archer can definitely bat at County level so [emoji1696]

pretty poor since lunch, Too much time to think about it.
Buttler sold down the river, but two poor shots.

Had Root not dropped Labuschagne yesterday, we could be a few overs from victory right now
