Good luck to the lad. Hope he’s already started his 5 years, as I fear this shit might go on for some time.

Barclay confirmed to be leaving this summer. Not clear what he will do but hint he may be open to a final club. BBC article says Scott is out of contract too. Surely they should be keeping him.

Glasgow should give Barclay a 1 year deal. They've got some very average options in the back row - learning from Barclay could help.Cameo wrote:Barclay confirmed to be leaving this summer. IIRC Scott has been stubborn over money but that's just a rumour.

Barclay is done as a top level player but wants to play on. If he wants to coach then a player/coach role as Blair got would work if can manufacture a place. But I don't think he wants to coach and that isn't where he sees his future last I heard, which is a shame but if its right then its time to move on.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:Glasgow should give Barclay a 1 year deal. Yup. Cotter did continue that trend for a while as well though. He's definitely short 10-15 caps.septic 9 wrote:Barclay is done as a top level player but wants to play on. Had a similar article pop up on my twitter feed suggesting Scott may be let go just below this one, which seemed odd. Would make sense if it’s an argument about money.Cameo wrote:Barclay confirmed to be leaving this summer. Not clear what he will do but hint he may be open to a final club. No idea how those are worked out though.
Watson the only other Edinburgh player I think, but Z Fagerson, Gray, Russell and Hastings all appeared too.

Have it from a reliable source that Scott is definitely heading south to the Premiership again. He wanted to stay in Edinburgh but was not offered a new contract, nothing to do with money squabbles.

Cotter continued what he inherited, then over-turned it. Which was good but took too long, and Cotter remember had a long period between being appointed and arriving, he had time to act quicker.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:Yup. Noticeable that Rugby Australia has soared problem free since Scott Johnson touched down.

He's a jinx as well as a problem it seems

Its always about money BTW. Budgets have to be met. Been a problem for Glasgow for a few seasons now, now hitting Edinburgh more. Edinburgh have been playing better, more Scotland players in their squad these days, triggered pay increases eat up cash. Hard decisions to be made. Any player who has delayed signing this season has left themselves in a difficult position, just bad luck but few new contracts being offered in Eng/France until clubs can see where income is going to come from and how much

Yep. I suppose I just imagined with all the injury woes Scott has had over the last few years he'd be happy to repay the loyalty with Edinburgh. He finally seemed to have settled back in.septic 9 wrote:and Chris DeanMikey Brown wrote:Well. Good news for George Taylor I guess.

Then again it's probably his last chance for a big contract.
Dean doesn't seem to have kicked on that much in the last couple of years from simply running very good lines. Was the switch to 12 just to accommodate Bennet? Very interested to see how Taylor goes in general though.

Why should he be loyal? It was mutually beneficial for him to come up the road. Budgets may change forever after this so fair play to him.Mikey Brown wrote:Yep. Big loss for Edinburgh but also a big opportunity for others.

Leicester have picked up Scott. Is he over his injury woes now, would you say? Not that it's not on brand for us to pay for always injured players.Mikey Brown wrote:Yep. He's had problems with concussions the last couple of years, so much so that I was concerned/half hoping that he was going to retire. However he brought his playing weight down this season and it certainly helped his form whilst seemingly helping him to stay healthier.Puja wrote:Leicester have picked up Scott. A bit gutted that he's gone to Leicester but should look good outside of Ford at least.

Thanks. Also, I guess any player with concussion issues is probably looking a better bet right about now. 2 months off from any contact at all is going to have helped a lot of players with recurring injuries.switchskier wrote:He's had problems with concussions the last couple of years, so much so that I was concerned/half hoping that he was going to retire. Switchskier covered it but yes I think on paper he could be a very good fit. This last season is the best form I've seen him in since he was scoring tries for fun in his one fully fit season at Gloucester.Puja wrote:Thanks. His hands are, err... not quite as good as Toomua's, but if you want someone running down that 10/12 channel off Ford to hold the drift/rush on to Tuilagi he could be very handy. As tends to be the way these days with Leicester these days it could be a great backline to watch if the forwards can match it.

Sad that he's leaving but at least he's gone somewhere he won't disappear. Not quite had the career he could have so far but I still think he's hugely talented. Let's hope Leicester get their act together.

Re: 1872 Cup Champions
Full list of leavers. Other than Scott I'm a bit annoyed that Fenton is off and we're locked into Wilhemse for another year. More expensive band not a notable upgrade as far as I can see.
Look light at ten with Hickey and Baggot off. However hope that the Lance rumour isn't true as have never been impressed when I saw him play for Worcester.
All in all, feels like some cloth cutting is happening.
Club centurion Dougie Fife is another who moves on at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. The back-three specialist – who returned to Edinburgh in 2017 following a season with Scotland Sevens – has so far earned 125 caps for the capital side.
Stand-off Simon Hickey leaves following two seasons in Edinburgh. The New Zealander – who joined the club from Bordeaux-Bègles in 2018 – has so far scored 186 points in 34 points in the No. 10 jersey.
Hooker Cammy Fenton is another who departs the club at the end of his current deal. Fenton – who signed with capital team in 2017 – has so far made 19 appearances during his three seasons at BT Murrayfield.
Second-row duo Stan South and Sam Thomson also leave at the end of the current campaign.
South – who joined the club on a short-term loan in February – returns to Exeter Chiefs having so far made one appearance. Thomson moves on having so far made eight appearances for the capital club.
Stand-off Jason Baggott is another who departs at the end of his current deal, with the South African’s sole appearance for the club coming against Munster in November 2018.
Finally, with his departure to French club Brive confirmed in March, Italian international prop Pietro Ceccarelli also leaves at the end of 2019-20. Ceccarelli has so far made 24 appearances in two seasons at BT Murrayfield.

He's better than you think - he single-handedly kept Worcester up in his first stint on loan in 2017 and turned their season around. He then went back to Super Rugby to fulfil his previously signed commitment and then struggled with injuries in his second stint (unsurprising after trying to play continuously for 20 months!) which put him behind Weir (who in fairness has been good for Worcester).ARM wrote:If Lance can’t even get past a pudding like Weir he must be the epitome of a journeyman.
He's might not be a world-beater, but he's a pretty useful fly-half to have and I'd be surprised if you couldn't get some performances out of him.

Lance would be a bit underwhelming but no budget for a name. I'd be more excited if Chamberlain was to come up (based on about two games) but might be too much too soon for him, and I think he is still studying so may not want to move. He might actually be better off at Glasgow behind Hastings and Horne (with Thompson hanging around too).
That list does feel like a bit of cloth cutting but there is a bit of a queue of youngsters in some positions so onus on them to step up.

Because Hickey has been mainly shit and costs a huge packet. Edinburgh have loads of players who need to be retained on a finite budget and Hickey simply isn't one of them.hugh_woatmeigh wrote:The Lance move makes no sense. Why not stick with Hickey another year and at least get the SQ box ticked?
That's before we get to the bit you struggle with - it may not be the clubs decision. Hickey does not like being the bench option.
Lance however will need to perform better than he ever has for Worcester to challenge for a starting position. Being behind an in form Weir is no shame, but Lance has been less than impressive when playing. He will cost half what Hickey was getting for little difference in standard
