Re: Scotland v Italy
There's plenty positives from this championship. They are for another day.
Best performance? Nah. But in the past we've tended to lose against a shite Italy team when we play bad. And even against really bad teams we usually always concede a try. We didn't today.
I felt the ref was harsh at times, not all collapsed mauls are collapsed by the defence, umpteen high tackles and their LHP barely scrummaged straight at all.
Italy are in deep shit now Sergio won't be around forever and they look desperately short of quality when you take campignaro and favaro out.

Italy are in deep shit when Sergio can't talk refs through the game. However i think that they'll be better next season. O'Shea will have them able to play for 80 minutes and that will prevent so many massive slautherings.

Re: Scotland v Italy
Best possible result from a fairly ropey game, thought we were very good in fits and starts.
As much as Italy conspired to make an arse of those two try scoring opportunities in the second half, Hogg did fucking well to force it.
Aye Greg Swinsons mail defence at the end there was excellent. He really is having a belting session.
I agree with Switch though Greg, you've got to chill the fuck out and start enjoying he little things in life mate, you'll give yourself and aneurism.
Decent start to the France Wales game.

What a strange game. Reading this thread in one go after the game and seeing all the early negativity is hard to argue with but we'd have loved that scoreline most years.
We seemed desperate to prove we can play a smart territory game, but when we just kept the ball in hand we made good headway. 29 - 0 is pretty good really but we made very hard work of it at times. There was some weird nonsense going on with our rhythm going forward at times, but once it got rolling it was good. I don't feel Pyrgos helped here. Gutted for Jones who ran some great lines and great to have Dunbar getting on the ball more. And no Greg I didn't actually jizz when Scott scored because it was too soon after that beautiful hard line he ran in the build-up.
Hogg MOTM by a mile for me. One poorish kick but a bunch of great ones and actually some good defence.
Now. Can I bring myself to support a team with Dan Biggar in it?

I thought Dunbar put in a good shift. Watson, as ever, never seemed to get knocked down by the first hit. Grey managed to muck the Italian line out up.

In fairness, that's not out of place for moments in our game.morepork wrote:oops. wrong Fred. Sorry.

Haha the last few pages of this are a good read. I thought that was decent enough in bad weather. Nothing special but looked in control and fairly clinical and a spell of good hard defence. Delighted with Hogg's two try savers too.
Also, Russel's kicking has been great since he took over

Yup. Not perfect but a lot to work with. Getting a prop or two back and finding a number 8 (sorry Wilson, it's just not the right fit) could make a big difference.
Interesting to see what happens with Laidlaw. Did anything come of that retirement talk? Hard to picture it. Price was naive at times but generally great and was hauled too early today.
