can there ever have been a bigger likely reversal of fortunes from having Oz 122-8 to losing by say 250 runs? Oz were also minus 16 for 3 at one point.

Buttler's place can no longer be sacrosanct, and he's no test 5.

Agreed, no specialist batsman in that team bar Root should feel comfortable *.But he is a better keeper and batsman than YJB. He has averaged 37 since his return to test cricket, which is far from perfect, but a full 10 runs more than YJB has averaged since Root took over (13.77 since turn of the year).

The selectors have got themselves in a right pickle.

*Stokes as an all rounder is probably ok.

Yes, I do actually think YJB is a decent intl bat, but shouldn't be keeping (doesn't keep in ODI's great recent record....coincidence?).

He looks ugly, but Smiff is on the money in lining up the ball keeping his head still and presenting a straight bat. There's technically a concern that he has to play everything on his pads given how much he walks across but unlike Shane Watson he's not missing the ball, so it's not going to be a concern until it starts getting him out.
