you'd normally settle for 76-2 when being put in. But losing Root makes it much worse.

Yep, one down would have been our session. 2 makes it about level pegging.Banquo wrote:you'd normally settle for 76-2 when being put in. But losing Root makes it much worse.

You can't have a collapse without something there in the first place - 85-2 gives the team something to work on. Go Burnley!

Buttler is obviously batting two places too high. 92-2 to 136-5, they are just pathetic

Bayliss will be gone soon, that'll help.Banquo wrote:doing a great job talking them out today. Bye Ben.Galfon wrote:A couple more quick wickets and we can say job-done..

You keep saying this, but see earlier comments about quality of batsmen available.Stom wrote:Bayliss will be gone soon, that'll help.Banquo wrote:doing a great job talking them out today. Bye Ben.Galfon wrote:A couple more quick wickets and we can say job-done..

Broakes usually shows resolve, but there is chance here for some redemption for keeper/batsman#1..

If we can somehow hang in, there will be some very tired Aussie bowlers come the last hour.....

Think its time to stop booing Smith, only makes him better. Carry on booing Warner as has always been the thing to do

Hopefully Bairstow clicks and digs in here. Big knock could kickstart a stalling career.
Get the guys in who have scored in CC1. Sibley for certain and maybe Northeast. At least they have scores in red ball cricket.
Too easy to say these guys aren't good enough. Especially when the incumbents aren't performing. Was fortunate enough to be in hospitality at the rained off game at old trafford on Friday and was chatting to guys in there and most thought Sibley deserves a crack based on this seasons form.

They are only averaging 30 ish in CC, but so was Trescothick when picked! Burns was picked when scoring heavily in fairness too, and Denly is a red baller by trade.Big D wrote:Hopefully Bairstow clicks and digs in here. Big knock could kickstart a stalling career.

Have to say though, for all the rants about get the red ball batsmen in.....there have been a huge number tried, too many with not enough time maybe, over the last 4 or 5 years.

Great stat- Woakes batting average in England is higher than Cook's at the moment. His England stats would make him one of the great all rounders- averages 45 with the bat (700 runs) and 22 with the ball (64 wickets) if continued

But Sibley particularly is averaging 60odd this season approaching 1000 runs to get his overall average to 40. Not sure another season of averaging 50plus would make too much of a difference. With tours of SA and NZ on the horizon I think they are as well giving him a run now and giving him time to bed I'm rather than having Denly wander on for a few more games.Banquo wrote:They are only averaging 30 ish in CC, but so was Trescothick when picked! At 23, he is the perfect age to get in at 4 in place of Denly with a view to moving up (or open from the start). If it doesnt work there is time to go away and work on issues and come back if need be. Don't think England would be losing anything by making that change bar Denlys slow bowling.
At the moment Curran for Denly is an attractive change too.

I'm not arguing about Sibley to be clear (hence the tres point). But the general notion that we don't try and put form CC red ball players in doesn't stack up, and in fact you are replacing anotherBig D wrote:But Sibley particularly is averaging 60odd this season approaching 1000 runs to get his overall average to 40. Unfortunately, he's now exposed a vulnerability as well as Archer
