On balance it's an excellent recovery, and we're strong favourites going into the last day.

Whether they were hoping to see the pitch play up a bit before brining back Broad and Anderson I don't know, but tomorrow their roles will I assume be more defined, maybe 3-4 overs each early doors and then out of the attack waiting for the new ball

We did get a bit of reverse, one hopes they didn't get that using such an abrasive

Root is going to get a load of flak if we run out of time with them 9 down....

..and now should rightly get a lot of praise a bowler down on a dead pitch. Great effort from Stokes! batting bowling catching all great in the last two days.

England-esque collapse in the end after excellent resilience; irony of SACB coming out in support of 4 day tests. Be a crying shame to not have games like this.

Super win and an outstanding test match. The case for 5 day matches made in the most conclusive fashion. Stokes really is some cricketer.

Very few players have the 'X' factor that can turn games on their head with bat, ball or in the field.
Probs. Beefy & Freddie alone in the last 50 years before Stokes. (for Eng. that is).
Great for the game and agree, 5 day Tests have a place and should be left in there.

Terrific win, would love to be in the Saffa team room discussing de Kock's shot, both innings he's done something KP would be proud of

Decent start this, probably need 450+ just based on the opening overs unless spin is going to be a big thing. Interesting to see Wood back

Gods it looks hot out there, keep this going and we'll get the rewards later

Spin looks like it could well be a thing, a decent amount of turn, especially for day 1

Feels a missed chance with 4 players getting in and then not getting a serious score.

Agnew on the radio says it's very hot and humid, so here's hoping we're not bowling until after tea. Though I expect to be bowling after lunch

Hundreds for Stokes and Pope and a score in excess of 400. Not bad, not at all bad.

Would have liked to have seen xs of 500, but should be not a match-losing position. Some encouraging stuff at last -nice to see new names in the headlines, and Wood firing nicely.

A really good day, exactly the sort of day I'd like to see 5-6 more of each year

Interesting list actually. Between Jamaica 1990 and Karachi 2000 for me, probably Karachi taking it

Shocking drop from Root just a short while back. Would have been yet another for Bess.

When I noted on day one the pitch didn't look up to much but spin could prove a factor I had no idea if it could, and even if so I wouldn't have guessed this much. Even if we can enforce the follow on I don't know why you wouldn't want to bowl last on this

So in the U19 World Championship, tonight NZ is playing against (checks notes) erm, Japan.

How did that happen?
