Very pleased with that. Forshaw built an incredible defence with Sale and Allen had such a brain for the game as a player.

Good for Ant, hope he has a better time than with us :) :)
What’s the story there? Didn’t realise he’d gone in to coaching, but seems the right sort of fit given the way he played.

Been coaching pretty much since he retired, been around the blocks a bit; he coached defence and the backs for us for three years and was interim head coach....pretty short straw in fairness, but it was a tough time for all. Lovely bloke, a better assistant coach at this point.

Yeah, Forshaw is a quality addition. Good defence coach with plenty of experience. Shame we couldn't keep the one we'd seconded from Japan for consistency but this is some very good work from the club to get Forshaw in.

Ant Allen was at Cov coaching initially then I think he took a break to do other things before coming back into Champ coaching with Banquo's Boys. Be interesting to see what sort of role he has.

Think Ant actually started coaching with Tigers academy, where he became head coach (working with some of the current seniot squad), before moving to be part of the senior coaching group then off to Cov, then a break, then us....whilst doing some work in schools and other gigs.

Exe sign georgian tighthead Bachuki Tchumbadze. You will be surprised to know I don't know a huge amount about him.

23 year old who's played for Black Lions and a single test Vs Netherlands according to All Rugby. Seems a bit of a punt.

Freddie Clark who left Glaws at the end of the season is rumoured to be joining Falcons. Pretty strong rumour as well. They've got a number of signings to announce soon, Doherty the Sale centre who was on loan there last season amongst them.

I think this is Newcastle's first actual announcement - Ollie Fletcher re-signing for 2 years
Freddie Clark is signed, just waiting the announcement - family member let it slip

Clarke's a good player and very much a Diamond type of signing - I think he'll do well with them. I think Diamond is probably the best person to suddenly be handed a bunch of Red Bull cash for a moribund club - he won't bribe a Piri Weepu to join, but instead find players that want to join Newcastle at their current level that before he couldn't afford and just build up from there.

I don't see it that way (the general point, not the Clarke point) - he had money at Sale when Take That came in; and he didn't know what to do with it all.
IMO, Diamond is best on a tight budget. Give him £2M and he'll compete with squads on double that. Give him £3M, and he'll improve further, give him £5M and he'll be like a child in a sweet store.

Give him 3 years of gradually increasing funds to build some solid foundations, an academy etc; but look to move on after that

I dunno;

"The club was taken over in June 2016 by an investment group led by Simon Orange.

Notable leavers: Mike Phillips, Sam Tuitupou, Peter Stringer and Eifion Lewis-Roberts.

2017/18
Notable signings: Faf de Klerk, Jono Ross, James O'Connor, Marland Yarde and the return of Will Cliff.
Finished 8th in the premiership.
Notable leavers: Mike Haley, Will Addison and David Seymour.

2018/19
Notable signings: Chris Ashton and Rohan Janse van Rensburg.
Finished 7th in the premiership.
Notable leavers: Johnny Leota and James O'Connor.

2019/20
Notable signings: South Africans Rob du Preez, Jean-Luc du Preez, Dan du Preez, Lood de Jager, Akker van der Merwe and Coenie Oosthuizen.
Finished 5th in the premiership.
Notable leavers: Chris Ashton, Rob Webber and Bryn Evans.

2020/21
Notable signings: Manu Tuilagi.

In December 2020, Steve Diamond left the club due to family matters."

Borrowed from Wikipedia but year on year improvements with some really good signings that have helped form the core of the side that Sanderson has made a regular in the playoffs.

If Diamond does the same again at Falcons he'll be a hero there.

I don't think Diamond helps himself with some of his carrying on in interviews but he's a good DOR that's done underrated jobs in the past.

I would agree with Which that he's not the guy to lead a team to the top though. I think he'd topped out at Sale with 5th and wasn't able to take them to the next level beyond that. There no better DOR in Europe for dealing with a bottom-half of the table team though.

Yeah you'd have him in to do the rebuild and then bring someone else in for the big push to the top of the table. Helping a side get the most out of limited resources he's very good.

The universe determined to mock me as there's now a transfer rumour that Newcastle are angling to sign Finlay Christie now that he's out of the All Blacks contention.

Don't know if there's any kind of substance to that or if it's the start of a flood of weapons-grade bullshit that will come from every agent using the Newcastle Red Bulls as their bargaining tool, but there we are.

The rumour of Joe Marchant leaving Stade Français to join Sale has been quashed as he'll honour the last year of his contract in Paris.
