Very pleased with that. Forshaw built an incredible defence with Sale and Allen had such a brain for the game as a player.

What’s the story there? Didn’t realise he’d gone in to coaching, but seems the right sort of fit given the way he played.
Been coaching pretty much since he retired, been around the blocks a bit; he coached defence and the backs for us for three years and was interim head coach....pretty short straw in fairness, but it was a tough time for all. Lovely bloke, a better assistant coach at this point.Mikey Brown wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 12:01 pmWhat’s the story there? Think Ant actually started coaching with Tigers academy, where he became head coach (working with some of the current seniot squad), before moving to be part of the senior coaching group then off to Cov, then a break, then us....whilst doing some work in schools and other gigs.FKAS wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 6:39 am Yeah, Forshaw is a quality addition. Good defence coach with plenty of experience. Shame we couldn't keep the one we'd seconded from Japan for consistency but this is some very good work from the club to get Forshaw in.
Ant Allen was at Cov coaching initially then I think he took a break to do other things before coming back into Champ coaching with Banquo's Boys. Be interesting to see what sort of role he has.
23 year old who's played for Black Lions and a single test Vs Netherlands according to All Rugby. Seems a bit of a punt.twitchy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 16, 2025 12:18 pm Exe sign georgian tighthead Bachuki Tchumbadze. You will be surprised to know I don't know a huge amount about him.

Clarke's a good player and very much a Diamond type of signing - I think he'll do well with them. I think Diamond is probably the best person to suddenly be handed a bunch of Red Bull cash for a moribund club - he won't bribe a Piri Weepu to join, but instead find players that want to join Newcastle at their current level that before he couldn't afford and just build up from there.
I don't see it that way (the general point, not the Clarke point) - he had money at Sale when Take That came in; and he didn't know what to do with it all.Puja wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 2:00 pm Clarke's a good player and very much a Diamond type of signing - I think he'll do well with them. IMO, Diamond is best on a tight budget. Give him £2M and he'll compete with squads on double that. Give him £3M, and he'll improve further, give him £5M and he'll be like a child in a sweet store.
Give him 3 years of gradually increasing funds to build some solid foundations, an academy etc; but look to move on after that
I don't think Diamond helps himself with some of his carrying on in interviews but he's a good DOR that's done underrated jobs in the past.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 4:53 pm Would you please stop with these facts that undermine my biased perception!

I would agree with Which that he's not the guy to lead a team to the top though. I think he'd topped out at Sale with 5th and wasn't able to take them to the next level beyond that. There no better DOR in Europe for dealing with a bottom-half of the table team though.FKAS wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 7:19 pmI don't think Diamond helps himself with some of his carrying on in interviews but he's a good DOR that's done underrated jobs in the past.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 4:53 pm Would you please stop with these facts that undermine my biased perception!

Yeah you'd have him in to do the rebuild and then bring someone else in for the big push to the top of the table. Helping a side get the most out of limited resources he's very good.Puja wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 12:55 amI would agree with Which that he's not the guy to lead a team to the top though. The universe determined to mock me as there's now a transfer rumour that Newcastle are angling to sign Finlay Christie now that he's out of the All Blacks contention.Puja wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 2:00 pmClarke's a good player and very much a Diamond type of signing - I think he'll do well with them.
