Telegraph reporting Townsend, Farrell and Mitchell are being lined up as Lions coaches
That is a decent catch all and would suggest that Scotland will get at least a fair shout of lions (well with the shithouse slam and England being almost useless its not that surprising)

Farrell and Mitchell on the same "team"? Can't see what could possibly go wrong therewhatisthejava wrote:Telegraph reporting Townsend, Farrell and Mitchell are being lined up as Lions coaches

If that's it, have to assume Mitchell is going back to coaching forwards (currently defence coach) and Farrell defence (as he did previous lions tour). Add Gatland to those 2 and its 3 huge egos, Toonie would be well advised to stay well clear

Not sure, Gatland wont do the next one, so realistically it will be Farrell or Tonny getting lined up for the next tour

I know we've been here before but Williams at 15 for me, he was the one who made the difference 4 years ago, would have been a losing series only for him. His turnover on 36mins v England last week was exceptional

My back 3 all along has been Watson, Williams and Hogg. Haven't changed my mind on that.paddy no 11 wrote:I know we've been here before but Williams at 15 for me, he was the one who made the difference 4 years ago, would have been a losing series only for him. and a good call. I think there is a case to replace one of the wings with DammitZammit. He is I think going to be a very special player, an awful lot more pace than either and and already a lot more of an all round player than Watson (whom I rate very highly)Big D wrote:My back 3 all along has been Watson, Williams and Hogg. The all round ability of all 3 makes big Duhan look very much like an outside bet, even before Gatland picks Dilly Daly

Rees-Zammit on the bench to terrorise a tired defense but Keenan to start alongside Hogg and Williams in a backthree of natural fullbacks who are ready to receive kicks and chase the inevitable up and unders.septic 9 wrote:and a good call. Does anyone else have an irrational dislike of Liam Williams? He's a really good player but I just never enjoy it when he does well, and never have.

I like LRZ but just not there yet with him as a Lions starter.septic 9 wrote:and a good call. I think there is a case to replace one of the wings with DammitZammit. Re: Lions team after week 1
Posted this on the other thread but thought it was more relevant here
Squidge mentioned him as a possible lions captain (part jokingly),
I cant see it but i can understand why the net is being cast wider
In second row the two front runners pre tournament are not guaranteed a starting spot (Itoje and AWJ)
For me the top 4 second rows from the 4 nations are
Gray, Cummings, Beirne, Ryan (in no order) , then AWJ coming in at 5th
Looking further back neither Sexton or Farrell are guaranteed a starting spot and i think one will get to go and the other wont
Its a real shame that Ireland kept with Sexton as captain because Ryan would have been a sho in with Ireland for a year
After that who is there ?

on form (and Gatland doesn't pick on form) Ryan has either been injured or shit this season. Plays and looks more and more like a spoiled entitled brat.
Itoje been penalised a lot but still an outstanding all round player, a nuisance and a certainty. Henderson is going well. Launchberry playing better than ever, couple of other english locks might get a look
AWJ, put aside his age, he is playing well, probably as well as any, and a true leader on the park. If Lions goes ahead this year, captain.
In other words, its Gatland, as you were
One player I'd keep an eye on is Beard. Being 9'2" pretty good lineout, but also has matured a lot this season and has the best maul of any, attack or defence, and the opposition is SA

Re: Lions team after week 1
I know there has been a lot of talk about where the games are going to be played, if a Lions series without a tour is still special etc. and I think a fantastic way to combat the apathy that's going around would be to have the games in the UK and in order to differentiate from a Lions "tour" you build a southern hemisphere touring side to play the Lions in the UK. Imagine a one off series where the 4 nations teams bring a composite squad and play a tour in the same style the Lions do. Mid-week club games etc. and then the test series is between a Lions team and the 4N team. Only ever as a one-off as this is a one-off set of circumstances.
I think this would be amazing, it would be a real highlight in a calendar year of quarantine and rubbish. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why it couldn't happen but just talking hypothetically I think it would be awesome!

With one game left
Sutherland
Owens
Furlough
Gray
Beirne
Tuperic
Watson
Faletua
Cooney - fuck it. I’m done with everyone else
Russell/Ford the waxing lyrical of Sexton is ridiculous
Vdm
Henshaw
North/Jones/Slade/JD/Ringrose/Huw/Slade I think this is a fucking hard position to fill -
Zammit
Hogg
Some really good players missing out
Itoje, curry, Richie, a Watson, l Williams , AWj, Navidi, adams , farrel, mako
I don’t thing the English can complain, Irish backs have really struggled to score tries (Except Earls), wales finally looked good last night but blew it with silly penalties when it finally didn’t go their way.
Picking a 33 would be really interesting

I enjoy seeing the pundits fill the prop positions. I don't even have particularly strong views on who it should be, but they completely forget people who they had in pole position a few months before just because they haven't scored a try or been mentioned as much by the commentators.

I’m really not sure, looking at some so called experts it could still be token scot territory even if we finish 2nd.Big D wrote:Watson is nailed on for the Lions.
That wankpuffin Jones had Elliot Daly in the lions?
One drop goal a side he was the worst full back in the tournament even with Jacob Stockdale on the pitch

For our guys, Friday is as big a match as they could.wish to press a claim. They folded at times in the Wales and Ireland match and they'll ve playing an up for it French side.

Re: Lions team after week 1
I think basically every contender would need a big game on Friday to stand any chance. Hogg will probably go and Mish most likely after that. I think a few of the guys have it within them to put in the performance, but I don’t see Gatland fancying many of them when there are previous tourists available.
Sutherland, Gray, Ritchie, Russell etc should all be in the conversation but I just don’t see it.

Re: Lions team after week 1
Russell and Hogg I'd be surprised if they didn't go, everyone is is 50/50 at best. Completely played themselves off the plane in the Wales and Ireland games.
Ritchie and Watson are probably our best players but the competition is fierce.
Maybe Cummings but it could be too soon for him and again there's plenty of 2nd rows around.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Woodwards team is so bad it could be interpretive dance
Starts ok
Sutherland
Owens
Sinclar WHAT
Itoje So we want to give South Africa penalties do we
AWJ - Not my cup of tea but ok
Beirne
And then it gets funky
Curry For me prob 4th/5th best open side this tournament
And now ridiculous
Tipuric Like, hey Tips, want to pick up this ball and run it straight down the chops of the SA ???
Gareth Davies - THe man who walked without a brain
Farrell And for me this is the funkiest of them all, Farrell spent the entire tournament kickingthe ball away and at the same time Woodentop spent the entire tournament being annoyed at this , but he wants to play a kicking game, ok then
JD - Understand this at 13 , but Henshaw deserves his shout
Slade - Im struggling to think of what he did
Zammit - as expected
A Watson - I like Watson but he is not there on any form, he has been criminally underutilized by England but does he really deserve to go ?
Hogg - Now this sounds mental but considering who he has picked Hogg is the wrong player for this
Either A Watson gets dropped or Hogg gets dropped to have Liam Williams in the team , but then you also pick Conor Murray and Dan Bigger
Weird team that makes no sense
