One of the reasons that Trump wants to drag Greenland into the US sphere of influence is because of Greenland's nature as a resource-rich chunk of land, with abundant oil, minerals and natural gas. One of those minerals is anorthosite, which is a potential green alternative to aluminium.
While Trump was busily issuing ultimatums and demanding Greenland become Americanised, Greenland went and signed a deal with Greenland Anorthosite Mining or GAM, a Danish-French company, which is backed by the Jean Boulle Group and both Danish and French state investment funds.
The Trump administration views Greenland as a commodity they can swipe from the Danes, and bully the world into compliance, while the rest of the world carries on behaving like adults. In other words, this is a masterclass in Trump demonstrating ThE ARt of tHE deAL.
The hope seems to be that Anorthosite could be a better raw material for the production of aluminium than bauxite ie that production could be cheaper and less wasteful. This has yet to be proved though.
Harvard is offering free courses in things like how government is supposed to work, legal right if encountering police / ice, understanding the constitution, recognising a dictatorial takeover etc

This Musk v Trump spat seems rather entertaining.
Who could possible have predicted that these 2 egos would fall out spectacularly - apart, of course, from everybody...
Trumps already halted the mandate that forces everyone to buy an electric car, which is... well, it's certainly something.
And talking about cancelling all US government contracts with SpaceX, which... erm...
Musk, meanwhile, seems to be talking about starting a New Republicans party for non-trumpist MAGA...
Wondering when we'll get to the stage of Musk being deported, but then applying for refugee status
Ah yes. Breaking news that Trump was on the paedo plane. Now I’m sure the justice system will finally spring to action.

And while the Billionaire Breakup very publically happens, Trump (or, probably more likely, the office of the President) is deploying 2,000 National Guard to Los Angeles because of the protests against the ICE raids, despite them not being needed and the Governor actively denying permission to call the Guard up. He has overridden the Governor's authority by citing a law that allows him to federally deploy troops in the case of "a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States."
A protest against Trump's policies is being legally defined as a rebellion against the authority of the government of the US. Quite apart from how terrifying that is, I've no doubt that chief fascist Stephen Miller is using this as a test balloon for future declarations of martial law.

Oh no.
As collateral damage from the Trump & Musk fall out, DOGE staff are worried about whether they'll still have a job on Monday.

This is genuinely concerning. It feels like another test to see how far they can get before serious challenge.

Can the governor legally contest this?
Already being threatened with federal charges for initially resisting the ICE action

This will of course play well with the Trump base who will see the Palestinian flags and assume the local authorities have lost control.
Trump obviously sees Newsome as a real threat at the next presidential election.

Under cover of the LA "riots" (which I believe amounts to... 1 car set on fire... by LAPD); it looks like RFK Jr has fired everyone on the CDC's vaccine advisory panel - for conflict of interest (ie, for being informed scientists who disagree with an ideologue)

Apparently Trump is now publicly backing the director of ICE over threats to arrest Newsom. My understanding is that the governor is on very solid legal and constitutional grounds, so that could be interesting.

SCOTUS is going to be busy.
The usual tactic is to act fast (preferably irreversibly), then see what kind of legal challenge arises.
Hopefully they won't be so gung-ho with a state governor (they can't just lose him in a foreign jail) so the threats are coming first.

None of which will do Newsom any harm in the popularity stakes. This is an issue, states rights that is, which many on the right feel strongly about so potential here for the governor to be a rallying point for Democrats and anyone else who is anti Trump. This might become the effective opposition voice which has been missing since the election.

Just a shame that Newsom is a colossal turd himself. The American Starmer.
