The CDC is under attack. Everyone with a science-based bachelor’s degree upwards here is on red alert. The US is set to become a super spreader for infectious diseases that have been contained for the last 100 years.

Thank you USA for volunteering to be the global control group.
We could have done with a heads up though, to give all your researchers a chance to bed in to their new posts.

The internet turning febrile around Trump not having been conclusively seen in public since Wednesday (with footage released of him golfing on Sunday being alleged to be a rerun). Here's hoping he's already in hell.

Of course, that would leave us with the major downside of President Vance, but I'd still prefer that. He may also be evil and less senile than Trump so possibly better able to be functionally evil, but I don't think the MAGA cult will transfer perfectly to him. He's not got the same quality of populist instincts as Trump, Republicans would fight and obstruct him in a way they wouldn't dare for Trump, and his accession would allow the millions of Trump voters who are struggling with the contradiction of "Trump can never be wrong" and "The government is hurting me and taking away liberties" to resolve their cognitive dissonance by blaming Vance.

No. That man deserves to suffer for a prolonged period before he is buried upside down and meets Satan.

The winners want to rewrite history, but... seems a little early for that, surely we can all remember what happened live on our TV screens
House votes to establish a new committee to investigate Jan. 6 attack

Republicans are looking to rewrite the narrative around the violent events of that day.

Vance would have plenty of time to run the government legitimately and build up that appeal to the Republican base. I’d prefer Trump hangs around for a couple more years yet to really give the Dems the best possible chance at the next election than allow any kind of sympathy vote or transfer of allegiance to Vance.

Well, this is just the worst thing that could have happened.

A pure FAFO moment, and someone being labeled a "martyr"...a martyr for what exactly?

All it will do is allow more inflammatory language, and more excuses for treating people like crap.

Charlie Kirk dies from a gunshot wound, while in the middle of being flippant and mendacious about public shootings. Not in favour of political violence, but there have been far worse tragedies than that.

My main worry is about what the Trump regime will use his assassination for, especially if the shooter was any kind of a minority. Hopefully whoever it was was a white cis straight male middle-aged republican, or they planned well enough to get away and never get caught.

It'll be used as an excuse to bring in more troops or some other totalitarian shit. Maybe station the military in problematic universities?

Oddly, it won't be seen as a reason to tighten up gun laws. :|

Well, Kirk himself said, "I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights." I'm sure he'd agree that his murder was an acceptable sacrifice.

Hah! Hadn't considered that! Don't actually think it's connected though - Trump's strategy of just denying and stonewalling is working well for him and he's not in enough danger to be worth silencing someone.
