Indeed. Not to mention the fact that after half a millenia colonizing the joint, white Americans have probably got a piece of just about every European nation in their bloodlines somewhere. It's just a matter of picking and choosing which ones you prefer to advertise. The rest of the tenuous "distant Welsh ancestry" ones are just that, a load of American actors like to claim they have Welsh lineage for some reason, perhaps in desperation to disassociate themselves from the US.

Elvis Presley was Turkish, his real name was Ahmet, and he never sang any of his own songs. Big Bopper did that - from a Caribbean island, where he lived to a ripe old age along with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens, writing songs for Ahmet - aka Elvis - who joined them there in 77 when the pop music industry decided he'd gotten too old and fat to be the poster boy of American rock'n'roll any more.

250 years ago the decision for the American Colony to adopt its national language was English which beat the German language option by just one vote . Now, that would have fked up WW2 well & truly , and , Budweiser would have been even bigger .rowan wrote:Indeed. Yes, many languages were spoken all over America prior to that vote, although when I was there at university quarter of a century ago many people seemed to doubt that vote had ever actually taken place. Do you have a source for that information, by any chance?

"The kernel of truth behind this legend is a vote in the United States House of Representatives in 1794, after a group of German immigrants asked for the translation of some laws into German. This petition was debated by the House of Representatives without a decision made and a vote to adjourn and consider the recommendation at a later date was defeated by one vote, 42 to 41. There was no vote on an actual bill, merely a vote on whether or not to adjourn. Because the motion to adjourn did not pass, the matter was dropped.[1] It was from this roll call on adjournment that the “German missed becoming the official language of the USA by one vote” legend sprang." wikipedia

Its remarkable. The difference between me talking sense and talking utter bollocks can often be down to a single pint. Someone should make sure that goes down for posterity on the tinterweb.

What the fuck is going on in here?
I came here to say that I hate it when you're having a shit and people are stomping around immediately outside the bathroom.
That's the level I'm afraid.
If you want to talk about history and politics and all that bollocks I have absolutely no time for any of you.

Yes, that's pretty much what I was told when I was there, though I just couldn't recall the details. So they were right. The English or German vote never actually happened, as such.Adder wrote:"The kernel of truth behind this legend is a vote in the United States House of Representatives in 1794, after a group of German immigrants asked for the translation of some laws into German. People that try and finish my sentences or try to pre-empt what I am about to say, these fuckers are literally not listening to me (there could be something in that), they are over eager to get a word in, I normally tell them to shut the fuck up, or in a customer situation I proceed with "as I was saying", which tends to point them to the fact they are being an interrupting twunt.
Bastards the lot of them.

I fecking hate it when there is one cubicle and the fecker who is in there is obviously having a kip, or knitting himself a new set of pants or perhaps reading War and Peace while I am pacing up and down outside trying to make it abundantly plain that if he doesn't get a fecking shift on my amoebic dysentery will be paying him the dubious compliment of spraying my curry-slurry over the door and all over his dithering-twat of a head.Mikey Brown wrote:What the fuck is going on in here?

Perhaps if you read the history of Thomas Crapper ? This would incorporate both information and history on subjects you find interesting .Mikey Brown wrote:What the fuck is going on in here?

The People's Princess? She wasn't mine. I wrote and asked if she would come and princess for me; didn't even get a text to acknowledge the stuff I sent from Ann Summers.

There is a guy in my local who does that, you can literally go out for a smoke and come back in and he is still staring at the ceiling with his mouth open, then will randomly say a few words, by which time you have forgotten what he was saying never mind him.J Dory wrote:Feckers who stop mid sentence with a blank expression on their face forcing you to try an finish their sentence for them. To be fair I don't think he is well, we don't ask.....haven't go the time.
