That would have been a disaster today with the way that unfolded. About the only decision Howley got right today.

We are clueless. Breakdown too slow, pass decisions often wrong, still running at men not gaps, people standing still when getting the ball, missed tackles. I could go on, but I need a drink. And probably a shower.

What makes matters worse is that Italy's win - brilliant though it is - just makes success impossible for Wales now. Even if we somehow win next week it'll be mocked as worthless.

Delighted for Sam Davies to do what he did, under that pressure, with almost his first touch.

But other than Baldwin, Foxy and (goes without saying) Sanjay, Wales looked like they couldn't give a shit and I felt the same. I'm sure I actually dozed off at one point.

Scrum half has the ball. The move is to pass direct to no. 2 receiver. Japan defender jumps out of the line at the no.2 receiver and is 2m away. Does the scrumhalf:
A) dynamically adapt to the situation and pass to no.1 receiver who can then exploit the dogleg defence by putting no.3 receiver in space.
B) pass to the no 2 receiver anyway as it was the pre-planned move and let him collect man and ball simultaneously.

That was dire. I went to the match full of optimism which lasted about 5 minutes. It was a shocking display of clueless attacking play and repeated lapses in concentration.

There was a Welsh fan who started up a chant of Oggy Oggy Oggy in the first half and got the words wrong. For me that summed up the day.

I think their time is up. This coaching team has had success and we shouldn't forget that, but they seem to be incapable of changing to keep up with the game.

8 years is a long time. A refresh was needed but that opportunity was missed. Sadly I think we are stuck on this trajectory until the next RWC.

Anyone get the feeling that time is running out for gats and co?

Fans are completely fed up, the fail and bbc seem to be turning and the fail reported, in one article earlier, that some players are starting to get fed up too. Even Andy Powell and 1 or 2 other ex players have had a go on twitter.

Sounds like the tide is starting to turn.

Their second try around the middle of the second half as the worst for me. Sure they were in our 22 because of a turnover, but the try came because they ran at us too fast and recycled the ball too fast for our defence to keep up. It was a good honest team try which we were unable to deal with. God help us against a good team.

Sure we had 10 changes, but the team was still strong enough to comfortably beat Japan, had it been coached to a reasonable level. We need some kind of change in the coaching staff, and Howley looks like the last person we'd want as head coach at this moment.

This said, I think Cuthbert's hopeless defence and missed try opportunities were enough to lose us the game on their own. I blame Howley for this, not Cuthbert - poor guy, his skills just aren't up to it, he should never have been anywhere near the squad. I don't quite understand the views that it was better to have Cuthbert on the pitch rather than Giles. The inexperienced Giles couldn't have been more defensively inept than Cuthbert, and by God he would have scored a couple of tries given the same chances as Cuthbert had. Gutting for Giles to have been given no chance when, frankly, Cuthbert should have been replaced after 20 minutes.

The tragic thing about Cuthbert is you can usually see how hard he's trying. Yesterday was no exception, he put in a real shift. I totally agree that it's not his fault... but he's bloody terrible, and has been for ages now. He's unrecognizable from the player of 2012/3, who was also prone to defensive wobbles, but would reliably finish a half-chance from halfway. To carry on selecting him is cruel and unusual punishment. If he really WAS a horse, we'd have had him humanely shot by now.

Had Giles started, or played 50 minutes within that team performance, we know in our hearts what would have happened. Wales would have gained an unconvincing 10-point win; but Giles would have thrown an intercept pass or missed a tackle somewhere, and we'd all be congratulating ourselves on how we knew he wasn't ready all along. I was as disappointed as anyone not to see him, but I honestly think he may have dodged a bullet. There is simply no excuse whatsoever for not starting him next week.

We won't, of course.
