You lucky bastard!
We've had to put up with Christmas shite for about 3 weeks now!

Which Tyler wrote:My understanding is that mester comes from mensis, meaning month, so a trimester is a 3-month period, or approximately one academic term, a season or 1/3 of a human gestation.
A Semester would therefore be a 6 month period...
Congratulations on your googling skills. Etymology can be fascinating. Term is short for 'terminus' - ie, the end.
If they're good enough to play at World Cups, why not in between?

Thank you, didn't need Google though, I happen to be interested in etymology, learned Latin at school and use pidgin-latin on a daily basis.
"Term" I didn't know though - makes sense though

My bollocks it is. Term is derived from the Latin terminus, via the old French and middle English terme. In etymological terms (See what I did there?) 'derived from' does not equate to 'short for'.
You really need to sharpen up your Googling skills.

No, I made that deduction myself. Terminus minus inus equals term. So the term term looks like a short form of the Latin term terminus, which is what I learned when I did my google search.

One of the first Latin phrases I learned was Caecilius est in horto.
I have to say that as a second former lacking in the most rudimentary interest in gardens, I would have been decidedly more engaged if it had been shortened to Caecilius est in hor.
I might use that pic of the Don and his festive tie to scary away fat semi-literate septic children that make it past the jackals and barbed wire on Halloween.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I intend to be heavily armed, with pressurised water weapons and a stock of last year's feijoas, behind a palisade on my front deck. If the traditional enquiry is made, I will be choosing "trick."
