What's the story with Lacey? I can barely keep track f which blind spots which refs have.

At least some of that could work in our favour.

To be honest I struggle to be optimistic against Wales because no matter how well we play we find ways to fuck it up against them. There's not anything more to be scared of than in previous years though, if we play with some sort of composure we'll be in it but I'm not banking on that.

Hopes?

A win of course.

But in terms of detail, at a minimum neutralising the scrum. Lacey will go in with the preconception that we're weak there. So the Welsh will do everything - drive squint, wheel, soft hits - to win penas. We need to start very square and solid and look to get the shove on from the start. If we do that and even manage to squeeze our own scrum penalty it will give a massive confidence boost to the team and give us the platform to play.

I also want us to play in the right areas off the pitch so our kicking game and chase needs to be spot on.
We can't afford to start off playing the game from the wrong areas of the pitch and forcing the miracle offload. Our backs are good enough to finish off in the final third.

Anything short of a win is glorious failure and means we have not learned how to take our chances.

The welsh team defended bravely and pushed England but when it came down to it got a try off a set piece move and that was it. Our defence is good enough to keep them at bay if we play aggressive. They were diabolical against Italy until the italians started giving them a penalty every minute and even then they made hard work of breaking down the worse italian team since the start of the 6N.

Against England they were against a very limited attacking team, thats bout the only thing that is limited with England is they defend well, hold onto the ball well, counter but they are really struggling to do much outside 12, may be down to a breakdown in communication between 12 and 13. Out of both games Im not sure i have seen JJ do anything of note.

Id say the first 15 mins of each half are critical, we need to control the game and make sure not to let the welsh in the way we let the irish or the french in. We need to play smart, play aggressive and try and get behind the backs as our backs are faster and are in better form than George the tank engine, I can kick a penalty 1/2p and Im not nearly as good as the other J Davis.

This game is winnable, it will depend on if we keep letting them in the game and if we stand up or get bulied

I am hoping that I delay my stay in the pub a little too long, just get to the ground at kick off, head to empty my bladder and whilst in front of the urinals hear a huge cheers followed by some guy running into the toilets shouting that John LeslieStuart Hogg had scored after 35 seconds. Dreaming or Deja Vu!

Lacey is bad but for both teams, he probabbly suits us a little bit as the irish refs tend to ping holding on in the floor more than Peyer did, He tends to be slightly less than average but unlike others doesnt tend to have single huge brain farts but more a general steady decline of crap decisions

Only way we're going to win this is by playing fast and loose. Biggar is immaculate with the tee so we will need tries.

Slightly off topic...

Does anyone know a decent pub near the Western General? Am going to this one with my good lady, and had plans to go to a few pubs in town, etc, but someone we know has now ended up in there. We're not sure whether they'll be up to seeing us, but if they are, it's likely to be a short window of opportunity. Therefore, if anyone knows somewhere half decent near the hospital that we can either walk or get a taxi/ bus from, that would be ideal. If we don't see her, I'm presuming wherever we end up will also be within striking distance of a taxi to Murrayfield. Cheers for any info.

And - back on topic - fuck max boyce and fuck wales. English lapdogs.

You're not far from stockbridge. A few pubs over there. Western General is sacred/cursed land, I was born there.

For the first time in years, there is greater parity in the backs against Wales.I just hope we can get them into the game. We need to make sure we get the ball out of the scrum as quickly as possible.

Cheers - figured I would be in Stockbridge there. So, on matchday. I'm looking at Raeburn, Taps or Scran and Scallie, I take it? Don't think I've been in any of those.

Any recommendations?

I've not really been down that way in a while, but you'd hope the Raeburn would be alright for the rugby.

If you follow the road up a bit further from there, past the pizza express and over the bridge there is a pub on the left called Hamiltons that will likely show it, it's a good pub, decent food n'aw.

I've only been to Raeburn myself. Never during a game though.

Pretty much as expected then.

Should say I'll be going to the game! It was more what to do in the run-up to it. I just need to be based near the hospital in case we get a call to go in.

Dunno why I mention it, but I've always thought Jake Ball was shit. No real reasoning behind that. Maybe he's just not AWJ.

Feels like Wales have named their team pretty early but if they're all fit then the team picks itself really.

Jake Ball is a squad player normally but they have a bit of an issue with injuries don't they? No Davies & Charteris just coming back.

Jake Ball ha a good first interneational season a few years ago, then droppe in form badly. He is playing very well at the moment and would probably be competing hard for a position even without Charteris being injured. Personally, I'd start with Charteris for his defensive capabilities against anyone who likes to maul from the lineout. But Ball offers a lot in attack which isn't to be sniffed at.

On top form Bradley Davies would be ahead of Ball I suspect, but injuries have prevented that.

Overall, it was the team we all expected Howley to pick and it will be interesting to see if we can beat you guys again on Saturday. Oddly, I wonderif the Welsh management will be happy with the prospect of poor weather, given that we seem to want to play power rugby rather than do anything creative.

Wales were on record saying they wanted the roof closed, Cant see Wales beating us by playing attacking rugby but if they can do what the french did to us and smash us and make us scrum then they could beat us

I think our game plan wont be based on a fast and loose game. In some respects, Im surprised that we have gone for Tipuric given that we will want to try and overpower you up front - I can only assume that Howley didn't fancy the civil war that such a move would spark!

Is being an irritating gangly bastard in mauls literally the only thing Charteris offers?
