Re: Wales v Georgia

A lot of good sense has been written here. I think we all know that there are deep structural problems in Welsh Rugby, many linked to overall shortage of resources because we are a small country. However, these are problems for the long term.

The short term and medium term problems are to produce a functional team for today and a functional squad for the World Cup.

We did not function last Saturday. In the past we have lost games owing to injury weakened squads, that was not the case against Georgia. I don't want to take anything away from Georgia, they deserved to win. They turned up and played rugby to the best of their ability. They played like a team that knew what it was doing. They were not superhuman, but were all united in aim and worked together very well. We did not.

So, we put what looked like a good group of players, previously seen to be capable, on the pitch and they did not perform. I don't know why not.

What happened to our scrum in the final ten minutes? (Full credit to Georgia, tired bodies delivering outcomes that seemed unlikely in the first half.)

Responsibility can only fall on the players and immediate coaching staff for that failure to work as a team. In my opinion, Wales have never need to build a team around a single dominating captain, we have always had a communal group ethos that made our teams greater than the sum of their component parts. That spirit was missing last week. We were totally disorganised at some times.

Was last week just just a blip? Perhaps we will perform brilliantly against Australia today? If we don't, then major changes must be implemented before the 6 Nations.
