Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
Halloween was fun here as usual. We set off with the next door neighbours and some hangers on, was chaos on the streets with hundreds of kids, parents walking around with drinks, folks setting up shop in their front yards in full costume, smoke and light effects, music, handing out beers to parents, really is a party atmosphere in my neighborhood.
The joint afterwards was probably a mistake, though I had the common sense to hide the resultant pile of empty wrappers before bed, the kids are none the wiser that their loot was plundered.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I had one kid come to the house dressed like Hannibal Lecter. His mate was pushing him round on a dolly. That was good. I felt bad about pissing on all the candy after seeing that.

Me Too....really? Someone touched your knee 30 years ago and it ruined your life?
It detracts from real abuse.
Which reminds me......when I first played senior rugby, anyone who scored a try jogged back and would inevitably get a tap on the arse from the skipper. Am I entitled to compensation? Asking for a friend.

Using the word craft in lieu of write. Annoying enough when it's applied to creative writing (crafting poetry & fiction, for example), but now I see positions being advertised for grammar crafters and content crafters, which is actually editing - nothing to do with crafting at all. All seems a bit crafty to me

If they're good enough to play at World Cups, why not in between?

Fucking hell. Stick the word “curate” in that category too. It’s probably the industry I’m in but 99% of the time is hear people use that word it means they made a Spotify playlist.rowan wrote:Using the word craft in lieu of write. Canadian Border Services Agency.
As I await delivery of an item from the USofA, I've been utilizing the convenient USPS tracking system to follow it's progress across this great continent. Starting in Latonia Kentucky, up to Cincinnati Ohio, across to Chicago Illinois (wait, you're going the wrong f'ing way), to eventually settle in Mississauga Ontario Canada, oh so close, where it hasn't budged for 3 tortuous days while the Canadian Border Service Agency officer sits reading playboy and picking his f'ing nose.
First world problems and all that, I know.

Have to admit, I was impressed with the border security when I was traveling to BC with my daughter when she was a toddler... They would not let me cross without her birth certificate. When I have crossed into Mexico with her, they just peek in the car, ask where I am from and wave me through.

Birth certificate? Was that because she didn't have a passport? I've been crossing the border in multiple directions with the kiddies and never needed anything other than passports.Coco wrote:Secrets safe with me J DJ Dory wrote:Trust you to know.Coco wrote:

Thanks for your discretion regarding the real dolls, wouldn't want that getting out there.

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
Ok so virtual signalling is obviously the latest buzz word. Having never seen it in my life before, I've now witnessed its use on countless occasions since about August . . .

I wish I could remember who it was that posed the question of whether anyone has ever sincerely used the phrase ‘virtue signalling’ whilst not being a total and utter dickhead.
