Seeing as quoting yourself is now the in-thing, does this seriously not irritate anyone else?Mikey Brown wrote:Our NHS.

What's the one he did with Kylie Minogue? The song was ok in a weird, gothic sort of way, but the video was awful. Kylie actually played a dead person, if I recall it correctly.

Btw, I noticed some genius smacked Weinstein in the chops at a restaurant in Arizona this week. Good job, feller! But can anybody tell me why the Hollywood slimeball is not locked up at this particular juncture?rowan wrote:Wouldn't surprise me if she became president anyway. As we've already seen, anything and everything is possible in American politics. At least her popular public image might prevent her from just going and bombing a bunch of countries willy-nilly. That would pretty much go against everything she claims to have stood for over the past few decades.rowan wrote:Thing is, if Oprah didn't know about Weinstein's antics, having worked for decades in the industry where it was an open secret, she must be incredibly naive, so she would hardly be in a position to lecture others on the issue (let alone ever think about running for the top job). Hypothetically speaking, of course.rowan wrote:Then a lot of people have been badly misquoted in the media. Moreover, the speakers referred to were closely acquainted with Weinstein & co, as well, and it would be stretching the imagination to suggest they had no knowledge of this before the story broke, since it has been widely regarded as an open secret within the industry.
American soul singer Seal has claimed Oprah Winfrey knew for years about Harvey Weinstein’s abuses, and has slammed the talk show host for being ‘sanctimonious’ and a hypocrite.

People not getting their own way to hospital. You injured yourself playing fitba and not one of your mates could drive you in? Either they think you're a cunt time you're all fucking fannies. Don't greet that you waited 2 hours for an ambulance.

Re: The Cringe/Hate Thread
This thread has drifted into serious and weighty matters. I'd like to do my bit for the board by dragging it back to the petty, insignificant and downright risible.
My current pet hate is BBC news reporters mispronouncing Scottish placenames. Now, some of these are understandable and I have a great deal of tolerance for the mispronunciation of Milngavie, Auchtermuchty, Stronachlachar etc... and it would in some ways be disappointing if they could pronounce them properly, but how hard is it to get Wester Ross correct?
The correct emphasis is on Ross - Wester Ross not Wester Ross
Inverness not Inverness
Cowdenbeath not Cowdenbeath
Until this stops I am going to insist on pronouncing Hemel Hempstead in the arabic/hebraic way as Chemel Chempstead

Fair enough I suppose, but if we called every shithole town in the country shithole it would make navigating a bit tricky. It would certainly confuse my wife.Mellsblue wrote:Shit hole will suffice. The lingo thing will always happen with everyday peeps..I got ripped by a weegie taxi-driver once for talking about miln-gav-ee rather than mull-guy, then got my own back as he went the full war-cester-shire. admittedly much scots dialect is archaic true English so he wusnae so wrang..
Newsreaders should be on the money though...Machynlleth (wal.), Kirkcudbright & Kirkcaldy are other crackers...

Aye, but my point is that you expect something Kirkcudbright to be a challenge, but what's difficult about getting the emphasis right on Inverness?Galfon wrote:The lingo thing will always happen with everyday peeps..I got ripped by a weegie taxi-driver once for talking about miln-gav-ee rather than mull-guy, then got my own back as he went the full war-cester-shire. admittedly much scots dialect is archaic true English so he wusnae so wrang..
