I'm old enough to remember watching a very good Scottish team in 1987 turn up in London, expected to beat a poor English side and win the Triple Crown. But a show of utter naffness buggered that.

we never play well at twikenham

Although we have some optimism
The english have not played for a month come game day (the game against Italy was so weird I dont think it counts)
We can score trys
The english cant score trys in any great number
Apart from one half in the 6N the most we have conceeded in a half is 1 try


Although some things that will cause us one hell of a problem
We cant scrumage
Zander will be targeted and will be pinged constantly
The english pack can be brutal and we dont have very many large players left, we will need to use Zander, the Grays and Wilson as ball carriers
The english will be hunting for Hamish and will do a good job of taking him out the game



I think the first 70 mins wont matter, my gut feeling is we will need a converted try to win it in the last 6 - 10 minutes , we probabbly are 50/50 on scoring that try

I'm not worried about us scoring - I'm worried about keeping the ball, and doing enough to disrupt Scotland from gathering momentum!

England have to be fairly decent favourites. Not lost in ages and have played all bar the AB's in that period.

It is going to be a big game from our tight 5 and they are effectively playing against a tight 6.

We need to play at a fast tempo and look to keep the ball moving by offloading and quick rucks.

That is all from last year, last year means nothing

If you took the english team from the latter half of last year they would hump the current english team

I dont put that down to injurys but all is not right in the current english team and for me they should have lost to Wales and wont beat us and ireland

For me ireland will beat them by at least 10 points if the weather allows for the irish backs to get in, us we could beat them but we tend to be utterly crap at Twikenham

They are favorites and should be, no matter what pants down says.

Smart rugby can beat that english team

You should do the old maul withdrawal and watch them pinged for truck and trailer. Should be good for at least five penalties. Should go down a treat after last week.

England were rank at the beginning of the season losing their first 3 games. We were going well with our only loss a high scoring game in Paris.

We were playing a fast paced game that season with a pack of forwards containing 5 who played their club rugby at No.8 (Beattie, White, Paxton, Jeffrey, Calder) and Rutherford peerless at 10 in what would turn out to be his final championship game.

Wasn't there a Keystone-Cops try when a Scottish player fluffed catching a Garryowen, the ball then pin-balling off about five English and Scots players before flying into the arms of England's full back?

Have very vague memory of Scotland being strong favourites to win Calcutta cup and Five nations championship in 1973..
Only (!) needed to beat an England side whose captain had said of them, " We may not be much good, but at least we turned up." .
Scotland were so confident of victory that captain Ian Maclaughlin (?) played with a two week old leg fracture as he didn`t expect the game to be difficult..

England were truly rank that year. Scored 0 tries in the first 3 games, no points in Ireland at all and the infamous battle in Cardiff. (Wales were by no means entirely innocent in that one but England were the instigators).
After Cardiff they replaced Dawe with Brian Moore, Probyn in the front row for Chilcot and Deano at #8. Made a difference, and we had some luck. With hindsight, that was the beginning of England rugby resurgence, culminating in the GS of 91 and 92.

(some rugby historians mention the 1990 5N but I tend to gloss over that )

Bit before my time but it was a famous quote - Other sides refused to travel to Dublin at the height of the Troubles but England did, to the great thanks of Ireland. (They did'nt let us win tho )

Looking at the back row bench options, in terms of impact I wonder if they will consider Rambo. Maybe not but he is an option. It probably comes down to CdP v Harley.

Bradbury is gubbed.
Denton didn't look fit.
CdP hasn't been at the race lately.
And I'm not sure Harley offers any impact from the bench.

No chance. It'll be CDP or Denton.

Harley starts at 6 or nothing. And there's no way the starting back row should be tweaked.
