Out of contract and I don’t think we have appointed a defence coach.

If I were Privac, I’d be having a conversation with him very quickly.

If I were Eddie Jones...

I'd probably be rubbing one out over Owen Farrell.

I imagine Edwards' phone hasn't stopped ringing. But whether any of that is coming from the Wales camp, who knows?

It would seem crazy to let him go, though. He's clearly doing the best job of all the assistant coaches. (No complaints about Jenkins's contribution, of course)

We should have made him and Gatland honorary Welshmen at last night’s Assembly gathering.

Then straight round to the WRU to sign another four year contract.

Whoever gets him, league or union, is going to have an awesome motivator and competitor.

Hope so. I'm more concerned that Pivac has (quite understandably) already hired a defence coach, so there simply isn't a place for Edwards.

How about the WRU hire Edwards as a defence consultant for the 4 regions? He could do some real good there, sharing his knowledge. (And he wouldn't be available to another union....)

I’d take him as head coach at the Dragons. At least the players would be up for it!

May just be how it comes off in text, but that sounds incredibly pissy to me, implying a lack of honour on Edwards' part. I can absolutely understand doing business on the basis of an oral contract and a handshake, but you'd expect the actual contract to appear quite a bit less than 6 months after the handshake.

Sounds a bit passive-aggressive to me. "No hard feelings - It's 100% my fault for not realising you were a shit"...

It seems to me that Shaun Edwards is a number 2 not the chief.

He’s talking to Dai Young at Wasps to work under him. Would prefer if he stayed in Wales with one of the regions.

I have wondered for a while if our overall team tactics have been that good. However our Defense has been good for a while. Maybe Edwards has had more to offer to the team than our head coach. It seems at times even if we are not playing brilliantly, the defence has kept us in the game. Maybe he has had more to do with our recent successes than Gatland.

Totally agree.

I hope that when the new coaching team comes in, they realise that some things ain't broken, namely the defence.

The senior players have experienced years of Edwards's coaching - let's hope:
1) they understand his techniques intimately, and
2) the new coaches use this deep knowledge to maintain our defence's winning formula rather than redesigning it.

Happy days! Shaun is reported to stay with Wales.

According to WoL, he is about to sign as a second defence coach alongside Byron Hayward. Byron will analyse opponents’ attack and Shaun will put the plan into practice.

A great opportunity for Byron to learn from the master and that should stand us in good stead for RWC 3023.

Good to plan ahead, but not sure even Shaun will last that long.

He been with us for 11 years and I can see him staying for until 2027.

England must be rueing the day they didn’t move for him and Gatland.

No probs, made me laugh. Suspect he actually aims to hang on for a millennium in Rugby!

At least with a Wales contract post-RWC it should keep his concentration levels high in September, not that I think they ever drop.

Don't think intensity is one of his issues :)

The stupid buggers at the WRU are reported to have offered Shaun a two year contract while all the rest of Pivac’s team are on four year deals, so the appointment is in doubt.

I guess they thought that he would could get Hayward up to speed in two years then reduce the salary bill by letting him go.

They are so shortsighted.

I hope he doesn’t walk away because of this slight.

Since they will now be overstaffed on the defence front, hopefully they'll get Shaun to spend a bit of his time mentoring the regions in his area of expertise. We're lucky to still have him; we should pick his brains while we can.

Really not sure how two defence coaches will work. Hopefully one will play a wider regional role.
