whitelock injured I assume?

No way Sexton should be playing. He was ko'd near enough, with plenty of previous.

Yeah can’t believe that call. What are all these frameworks and precautions for if someone with his history can take a knock like that and then be deemed fit to do it all again a week later?

You have to assume these guys know a little more than us about the subject, but it doesn’t seem correct at all in my medical opinion.

That's a really bad decision. He has a history of concussion. If he failed an HIA, he was concussed, so that's 12 days minimum. The coaches need talking to.

Whitelock was concussed, but the symptoms were delayed. It happens sometimes.

Sexton allegedly passed a second and third HIA. Also wondering WTF Healy is doing on the bench.
was he concussed? The replacement hooker was reeling and played on for 5.

Whitelock or Sexton?

Whitelock experienced delayed onset concussion where he didn't experience any symptoms until well afterwards.

With Sexton, who knows? The entire thing has stunk to high heaven and he probably shouldn't be playing, but he's allegedly passed his HIAs.
no, Healy   soz

....or are you saying he should be starting? crossed wires methinks

It's fairly likely Healy's well below 100%, after a pretty horrible injury against the Maori All Blacks. It was quite telling that despite the Irish scrum coming second best, he wasn't brought on to shore things up or add some impact around the field. Dude's got almost 120 test caps. You'd think he'd be handy when the game was in the state it was in at the start of the second half last weekend.

Shit, I wouldn't be greatly surprised if Healy ends up being an unused reserve again. It also kind of makes me wonder what's happening with the loosehead depth in Ireland.
got you, cheers

I know it hasn't always historically worked but I think this triple 7 backrow of NZ will be fun. Saves clearly has what it takes to play 8, I think Papali’i has all the tools for 6 and Cane is Cane.

For a fast game I think they will be great. If it slows down, they are giving away a fair big in terms of weight and tight carrying. The next game or two will really determine whether it's an option going forward or whether Papali’i is destined to be back up for Cane until after the World Cup.

Seems crazy with his history, he seems fine with it though, when you hear what steve thompson and hayman are going through surely nobody would take a risk unless they were 100% comfortable, who wants to be heading for dignitas when you're 45 like

Hopefully a good even contest tomorrow morning, and sexton not wobbling off the pitch

Why did they take Savea off and leave Cane on?

Can’t really sub your captain off for a sim bin can you? Would have been really funny given it ended up being permanent though.

Why not - or sub the 6. Cock up surely.

The 6 was already off, I think they thought they’d be able to bring either back on.

They seem to value Cane in a way that’s hard to see why in comparison to Savea.

Ah ok, well my original comment stands then.

Good win by Ireland, especially given the first half having a stonewall NZ red downgraded to a yellow, a stonewall penalty try downgraded to a yellow, an England-like inability to score against 13, and then NZ fluking a try on the verge of halftime having not been in the half at all. Previous Irish teams would've folded after that list of disappointments, but this lot stuck at it and worked for the result.

Very well played Ireland. I think them and France play the best rugby in the world at the moment. Still make NZ favourites at home next week though.

Surprised you viewed that first yellow as a stonewall red. It was a genuine attempt at a charge down I felt. A little reckless but not the worst. He also put an arm into Hansen's chest to brave.

Probs was a penalty try though I'm not sure Sexton hadn't pulled back on the pass anyway. If he had popped it to no one I think it would have been given.

Unfortunately we'll now have to sit through sleepy old Foster selecting the same-old-same-old for the third test tO rEdEeM tHeMsElVeS and/or FoR tHeIr eXpErIeNce. Taukei'aho carried for more metres in one carry than ponderous old Taylor did in the entire match? Sorry mate, didn't see it. The first half dragged on for so long I was already in bed with my warm milk before the halftime break was through.

Taylor and Ofa need to be taken out behind the shed. At least with Ta'avao's injury we should be able to get one of the younger, more dynamic, props in there where they should've been to begin with.

It was the fact that he launched himself from so far away - Hansen was about 6-7m away at the time he threw himself into the air - it wasn't a likely chargedown to me, it was throwing himself desperately into Hansen's path and hoping. Was reckless and I don't see the arm touching the chest a millisecond before the tucked shoulder planted into the nose as being realistic mitigation.

Also, Hansen should've gone off for an HIA and it's a disgrace to the sport that he didn't.

Gosh, I really wish we had some kind of league competition with one-off games and lots of travelling, instead of this enthralling test series, said no rugby fan ever.

Man, they pretty much fucked us right up. Coach and captain need to sort out the ill discipline. If the laws regarding a safe challenge are not understood at this level, then just come on, you know? Got to give the Irish credit though. They are pretty formidable unit when they are on.

Few things for me, we were predictable with our 1 2 3 phase play then box kick. Mix it up, the up and under wasn't working, don't stick with the same game plan, adapt sooner. We need to stop the cards, man down for half the match is always going to be tough, I'm worried the talk of fronting next week is going to exacerbate that. Jordan has to start, and we should have 3 Barretts, so move Jordy to 12 and Jordan at 15. I actually thought the forwards did ok, not getting the negative Sam Cane vibe, but there were too many ruck turnovers so we need to counter that somehow .. I don't know how. Aaron Smith wasn't at his best, I'd be tempted to start Christie. Perenara looked good for the Maori too. Tough call.

Well done Ireland, seriously good team, but I feel like we've got the talent to roll them next week with the right rugger smarts.
