Not guilty...... WTAF
I'm sure any right thinking rugby supporter would find it odd. Regardless of the technicalities involved in making the decision, just doesn't sit right.Sandydragon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 1:41 pm Yep. Even the English board finds that decision very odd. Hopefully World Rugby will appeal, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t.
He's on the bench for this weekend, so (hopefully) he's come through unscathed.Mikey Brown wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 2:20 pm Any word on Basham? I read he failed the initial HIA but Gatland was dubious about it?
Well ..they have appealedSandydragon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 1:41 pm Yep. Even the English board finds that decision very odd. Hopefully World Rugby will appeal, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t.
I happen to know of a good QC who can get you off even when it's blatantly obvious you've shoulderbarged someone in the face, if you're looking for recommendations...
Heh, good point! Still working with old money over here!Sandydragon wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 9:04 pmIf he were that good he’d be a KC![]()
I guess it's like the speeding awareness course - if you make it mandatory without benefit, then people will either not go or will sit there and not pay any attention or engage with it whatsoever, but if you make it so they get a reduced punishment as long as it's reported back that they paid attention and engaged, then they're more likely to learn something.ALunpg wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 10:50 am Not specific to Owen Farrell, but this reduction of ban if the player does a tackle course is confusing me..
If it is seen as a solution to poor technique, why are players and coaches not doing this course when they first step into proffesional rugby with regular updates ?
Also why does it attract a reduction in sentence ? , it should be mandatory with no reduction, and then your allowed to play again .
I understand that modern players are under greater scrutiny, but that's what today's game is .
Puja - can we take it you’re no great fan! I have a feeling, England without Farrell, will be more direct and expansive.Puja wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 12:32 pmI guess it's like the speeding awareness course - if you make it mandatory without benefit, then people will either not go or will sit there and not pay any attention or engage with it whatsoever, but if you make it so they get a reduced punishment as long as it's reported back that they paid attention and engaged, then they're more likely to learn something.ALunpg wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 10:50 am Not specific to Owen Farrell, but this reduction of ban if the player does a tackle course is confusing me..

There are a fair number of statistics showing that it does improve future outcomes and, even in Farrell's case, his technique has been markedly improved since he did it, right up until the point where he lost his rag through England being under the pump with 13 players and reverted back to trying to smash someone to assert dominance.

If we were talking about the amateur game at all levels I would agree with your analogy, In the non proffesional game there will be always be a necessity to assist players to improve through training and feedback .Puja wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 12:32 pmI guess it's like the speeding awareness course - if you make it mandatory without benefit, then people will either not go or will sit there and not pay any attention or engage with it whatsoever, but if you make it so they get a reduced punishment as long as it's reported back that they paid attention and engaged, then they're more likely to learn something.ALunpg wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 10:50 am Not specific to Owen Farrell, but this reduction of ban if the player does a tackle course is confusing me..
