Just did a google, as Hepher's not that common a name and rugby does tend to go in families, and apparently Simon is Ali's brother. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/story ... 25,00.html

So the link was there, just one chain further apart.

Leicester Tigers kicked off the 25/26 PREM Next Gen academy U18 league with a 38-31 win over Sale Sharks.

A dominant first-half display, including four tries to the Tigers, saw them lead by 17 points at halftime before having to hold on against a fast-finishing Sharks side to register the Round 1 victory.

It took just two minutes for the first points of the season to be registered when wing Christian Gordon-Astbury crossed for the opener. Fly-half Matthew Clatworthy converted the try to make it 7-0.

Two more tries for ‘The Cubs’ in quick succession, the first to blindside flanker Fin Charles and the second to scrum-half James Alcock, extend the lead out to 17-0 after only 14 minutes at Loughborough University.

Sale got on the board, through Cieran Milligan, on the 20-minute mark, and the fly-half converted his own try to cut the deficit to 10 points, 17-7.

However, Tigers hit back almost immediately when wing Abdul Bah-Bah got over just two minutes later, and Clatworthy converted the try, to make it 24-7.

The scoreboard attendant had a busy finish to the first half with the Sharks getting a second, to outside centre Christian Smith, which was converted by my Milligan, to make it a ten-point game, 24-14.

But, Leicester struck again right before the break with a second for Alcock, and fullback Nathaniel Robinson added the extras to make it 31-14 at half-time.

Alcock had his hat-trick shortly after the teams returned to the field for the second half, crossing in the 44th minute and replacement back Will Loveday extended the lead to 24 points, 38-14, with a successful conversion attempt.

Sale added three tries in 15 minutes, and one successful conversion from Milligan, to make it a seven-point game, 38-31, and a nervous final ten minutes for the Tigers, who managed to hold on in a brave defensive effort and claim victory.

TIGERS XV: 15 NATHANIEL ROBINSON, 14 ABDUL BAH-BAH, 13 OLLIE MYALL (vc), 12 JOE HENSTOCK, 11 CHRISTIAN GORDON-ASTBURY, 10 MATTHEW CLATWORTHY, 9 JAMES ALCOCK; 1 KAJETAN LEWANDOWSKI, 2 ALEX CATCHESIDE, 3 JOE EDMUNDS, 4 MACKINLEY JONES, 5 ETHAN HARRISON, 6 FIN CHARLES, 7 DYLAN CHESSUM (c), 8 OLIVER ROBINSON

REPLACEMENTS: 16 TOM COURT, 17 ____, 18 CHARLES KINSON, 19 CHARILE LLYOD, 20 LWAZI NXARA, 21 MORGAN BEESE, 22 WILL LOVEDAY, 23 HARRISON BROOKS

UNDER-17s: LEICESTER TIGERS v SALE SHARKS
The clubs also met in a U17 fixture at Loughborough University, which the Sharks won 12-26.

Sale got across the chalk for their first try in the seventh minute and didn’t look back, leading for the rest of the game.

The first try, to Henry Bates, was converted by Tom Gaffey, to make it 0-7, before Leicester lock Otto Stone scored to make it 5-7 after ten minutes.

It was more than twenty minutes before the next points, when Sharks hooker Ben Rosenthal got over and Gaffey converted, to take a nine-point lead, 5-14, into the break.

Tigers centre Josh Ford scored soon after half-time, and fullback Pat McManus Shoebridge converted the try, to cut the deficit to two points, 12-14.

Two late tries to Sale replacement Tom Males, with one converted by Gaffey, meant the visitors came away from the Midlands with a 14-point, 12-26 win.

TIGERS XV: 15 PAT MCMANUS SHOEBRIDGE, 14 OLIVER HUTCHINSON, 13 GEORGE ALCOCK, 12 JOSH FORD, 11 SAM MCGUFFIN, 10 RAHM BUTTERWORTH, 9 MORGAN BEESE; 1 JOE WOOD 2 OLIVER BLINKHORN, 3 BAILEY SAUNDERS, 4 TOM STUART JONES, 5 OTTO STONE, 6 IVAN BOYD, 7 LWAZI NXARA, 8 ETHAN RIX

If he's as good as his dad then Sarries will be very happy. A Bracken and Hodgson half back pairing in the future?

Not from a famous father (though out in Norfolk his dad's trailers are apparently popular with farmers) Dylan Chessum at openside for Tigers under 18s. He was a flyhalf a couple of years back, I presume the family genes are kicking in but he's kept the handling skills.

Talking of famous parents…

Tom Azam, son of Olivier, was playing 10 for Glaws U17’s this past weekend.

We also currently have Peter Paramore, son of Junior, training with the first team squad.

Both dads are absolute legends at Glaws….big shoes to fill!

Leicester Tigers were defeated by Newcastle Red Bulls 22-29 in Round 2 of the 25/26 PREM Next Gen academy U18 league.

After a Round 1 victory over Sale Sharks, Tigers travelled north to take on Newcastle and, thanks to a double for Marcus Southwell in the first half, took a 17-10 lead into the break.

But, a dominant second half from the home team - including three successive tries - saw the home team come from behind to register a seven-point win.

The Red Bulls crossed first, in the twelfth minute, before Southwell got over for his first in the 17th minute to cut the deficit to two points, 5-7.

A Newcastle penalty extended their lead to five points, 5-10, in the 20th minute before Abdul Bah-Bah got Leicester’s second to level it up at 10-10.

On the half-hour mark, Southwell had his second, and Nathaniel Robinson converted the try to extend the lead to 17-10, which is where it remained until the half time break.

Shortly after the sides returned to the field, Newcastle got their second and converted to tie it up again at 17-17.

The Red Bulls then added two tries in eight minutes to take their lead out to twelve points, 17-29, before a late try for Leicester replacement Seva Batikora cut the difference to seven, 22-29.

TIGERS XV: 15 NATHANIEL ROBINSON, 14 ABDUL BAH-BAH, 13 OLLIE MYALL (vc), 12 HARRISON BROOKS, 11 CHRISTIAN GORDON-ASTBURY, 10 MATTHEW CLATWORTHY, 9 JAMES ALCOCK; 1 KAJETAN LEWANDOWSKI, 2 ALEX CATCHESIDE, 3 JOE EDMUNDS, 4 MACKINLEY JONES, 5 DYLAN CHESSUM (c), 6 FIN CHARLES, 7 JOSH POYSER, 8 OLIVER ROBINSON

REPLACEMENTS: 16 MARCUS SOUTHWELL, 17 TOM COURT, 18 SEVA BATIKORA, 19 ETHAN HARRISON, 20 ____, 21 MORGAN BEESE, 22 WILL LOVEDAY, 23 WILL PAYTON

From NextGenXV with some results.

Prem Rugby Next Gen Round 3 Fixtures:

Saturday 25th October

Bath 31 v 5 Bristol Bears (Chippenham RFC, 12pm)

Exeter Chiefs v Gloucester (Exeter College, 1pm)

Leicester Tigers v Yorkshire Academy (Denstone College, 3pm) - Tigers won, but I'm fucked if I can find anything.

Northampton Saints 67 v 40 Sale Sharks (Shelford RFC, 5.30pm)

Sunday 26th October

Newcastle Red Bulls 26 v 19 Harlequins (Kingston Park, 1pm)

Gloucester are the only side to win both of their opening two games, beating Yorkshire Academy and the reigning champions Northampton Saints. This week they travel to Exeter College to take on Exeter Chiefs, who currently sit fifth in the table. They began with a bonkers 64-51 defeat to Northampton Saints before a thrilling 62-7 defeat of Sale Sharks in Round 2.

That takes place on Saturday, with the weekend kicking off at 12pm on Saturday with derby day at Chippenham RFC as Bath host Bristol Bears. Bath were champions in 2024 and reached last years final as well, and have started this campaign well, a thrilling 45-45 draw with Saracens (who have the bye this week) to begin before a 38-19 defeat of Harlequins in Round 2. Bristol Bears meanwhile had a bye in Round 2, so their only game was a 66-33 defeat to Harlequins in Round 1.

Also on Saturday, two games kick offs in the Midlands. Leicester Tigers are at partner school Denstone College at 3pm, hosting Yorkshire Academy. Tigers Began the season with an entertaining 38-31 victory over Sale Sharks before a tight 29-22 defeat to Newcastle Red Bulls. Yorkshire meanwhile seek a first victory after defeats to Gloucester and Saracens, the top two in the table. Meanwhile reigning champions Northampton Saints host Sale Sharks at Shelford RFC in a 5.30pm kick off. Saints, as mentioned, started with that mad game against Exeter Chiefs, winning 64-51, before going down to Gloucester in Round 2. Sale Sharks meanwhile are looking for a first win after a tight defeat to Leicester in Round 1 and that difficult outing at Exeter last time out.

Sunday has just the one game, and it’s a home game for the newly renamed Newcastle Red Bulls. They welcome Harlequins to Kingston Park for a 1pm kick off. Newcastle have played just the once, they had a bye in week 1, but made their first game count, beating Leicester Tigers 29-22. Harlequins, meanwhile, started with that epic 66-33 victory at Bristol before going down 38-19 to the 2024 champions, Bath.

It is worth noting, though, that much has changed since those opening two rounds. Not least access to England U18 players, Round 1 saw no England internationals while in Round 2 they were used sparingly after returning from the England U18 tour of South Africa. There is also less holiday interruption, so squads will be significantly different to those opening two rounds – it could have quite a bearing.

Players have also had half a term of top end schools rugby to develop and progress, so expect plenty of change in Round 3 from the perceived order back in August!
