Another fabulous day. England playing great and well on top. Its surely only the weather that can deny them a deserved win.

It would be desperately unlucky and a big let off for Aus. Great day from England.
It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Re: Cricket fred
Moeen has been a really useful option at 3. Occupied the crease, took up a fair few deliveries and did his job today - was unlucky to get injured and become unable to run, as it looked like he was settling in for the long haul. Even after his injury, he was able to change tack well and swing for the fences to get a decent score before finally getting out.
Hope he's able to bowl though.

Moeen's injury really screwed us. He was going nicely with Brook. Odd batting performance. Some fine shotmaking along with too many soft dismissals.
Over to the bowlers....

It's a tough pitch though. I'd say 283 is a pretty good score on it, especially with the overhead conditions.

Re: Cricket fred
He has bowled ok on flat pitches without luck, but I thought he looked out of nick at OT. In fairness, before this series he was ranked 1 or 2 in the world irc. They are clearly a bit frustrated with Robinson. Attack looks toothless atm

Not many hurrahs in jimbo's possible last-hurrah.
Oz batting sensibly, and nothing going Eng.way this evening.
May not see Mo in the field tomorrow either..
Huge day tomorrow to avoid a rare series defeat.

Re: Cricket fred
They're giving cricket a Bash over the pond at the moment with a new 'Major League Cricket' series - 6 teams from LA, SanFran, Seattle, NY, Washington and Dallas ('Texas')
The round-robin stage has been completed and running through the play-offs for the final.
( some glitches on reporting scores it seems !..)
A lot of sell-out matches, albeit at smallish stadia, and some good matches and performances from familiar globe-trotting names. Jason Roy was there with mixed scores (his LA team finished bottom of the table.)
(ICC are keen to set USA up as genuine co-hosts for next years T20 World Cup with Windies, but there have been financial issues reportedly.)

https://www.majorleaguecricket.com/homeThe Orcas became the first side to reach the final of Major League Cricket, meanwhile, the Super Kings will take on MI New York in the Challenger on Friday for a place in the summit clash. The Major League Cricket Final will be held on Sunday.

The first ever international cricket match was between USA and Canada and I believe cricket used to be Canada's national sport, before being displaced by, of all things, ice-skating hockeyGalfon wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 8:35 am They're giving cricket a Bash over the pond at the moment with a new 'Major League Cricket' series - 6 teams from LA, SanFran, Seattle, NY, Washington and Dallas ('Texas')

Re: Cricket fred
It seems like it's got legs - there's a big Indian diaspora in the USA which could provide a ready-made audience, and there's some big financial backing from some of the names behind the IPL. I don't know it's going to catch on massively with the average American, but I can see there being a thriving minor sports league in the same sense that MLR and lacrosse manage to eke out space in the corner of the US sporting consciousness.

Re: Cricket fred
Ridiculous catch by Root, but it's another where Bairstow has been bailed out by someone taking a catch that should've been his. He's not an international quality wicketkeeper, at least not at the moment, and he is lucky that that's not another missed chance that we'd be cursing his name for.
