Pre-Mid-Season

Post by Which Tyler »

Fixture: Bath Rugby v Gloucester Rugby
Date: Saturday 9 March 2023
Kick-off: 14:30
Image

4,10,11,12 looks interesting
Presumably, one of Harris or Bailey will be expecting to play the full 80, with everyone else changing at half time.

Regan Grace officially getting a run-out in a Bath shirt is very interesting - I had got the impression from the rehab videos that he didn't have a huge connection with the club yet and had just been able to use the facilities because the rehab specialists he was using use the facilities, so it's interesting to see him getting a run-out.

If he's back fully fit and firing, and can make the transition from league to union (still untested), then he could be an exceptionally good acquisition by Bath at a bargain basement price.

He's got a short-term contract for these 2 mid-season matches, but that's it (so far, and so far as we know).
Almost as interesting (but with a lower ceiling) is Du Plessis - I'd thought he was supposed to return to the Bulls if he reached fitness before the end of the season. Maybe they're looking at these two "friendlies" as his return to fitness, before heading back to RSA?

13 guests out of 23 for Gloucester.

ETA: Just spotted, 22. Iwan Price-Thomas looks like a loaner from Bath!

Glaws really not giving a single solitary fuck about this game, huh? Makes sense, I suppose - they've got the PRC final next weekend with which they can do a warm-up and they probably don't want to risk injuries before then. Only just noticed the interesting schedule - Glaws vs Leicester in the PRC, then the next week Leicester vs Glaws in the Premiership.

Yup, it's going to be slightly less meaningful than England A vs Portugal Amateurs

And I still want to see how Harris manages things and how Grace adapts to rucking (couldn't ask for a nicer introduction)

Saints team to play the Stormers. Interesting to see Garside at fullback - hope he can jump high!

Is it "nicked", when it's their own players?
That's the thing with dual registered players, sometimes, they return to their home club.

Good to see Quirke is back in action. Hopefully the poor sod has some more luck with injuries now.

I'm sure Diamond will be bigging up the result internally as Falcons morale must have been on the floor when he came in. They desperately need some belief and maybe a bit of luck when the Prem restarts.

The international break will've been a good opportunity to rest by Newcastle. Hopefully they'll be able to build something from here.

Can't say I've seen much if anything of him. Clearly has promise as he's been involved with England U18s

Another good scrum half coming off the production line at Saints. Really stepped up this year and rightly rewarded with England U18 recognition. Decent all round game. Not quite where McParland was at this age, and would be behind a fit Lucas Friday for England. But he’s come on leaps and bounds.

Am I the only one who thought we were thrashed by Leinster's 3rdXV?
Until reading the actual write-up.
