Top players should set the right example, perhaps?TheDasher wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 11:16 amI know where you're coming from Puja, I wouldn't do it and you're championing being a decent person essentially, but in top level sport I think it happens and it's not the end of the world. I suspect Farrell isn't the first or last to do it this season but just the highest profile.Puja wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 10:08 amYes.
However, anyone who shouts abuse at a teammate after they've made a mistake is a grade A dick. People will screw up - that's life - but almost no-one improves from being told that a genuine mistake is "fucking stupid" mid-match. That's not motivation or "being tough" - that's just making yourself feel better and somebody else feel worse.

FTR - RR was pretty unanimous in slamming Dan Biggar for doing the same. Or at least, the EMB was.

Quite possibly this is part of what coaches love about him: 'driving standards'. Many coaches hate uncertainty and mistakes and want to control as much as possible.TheDasher wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 11:16 amI know where you're coming from Puja, I wouldn't do it and you're championing being a decent person essentially, but in top level sport I think it happens and it's not the end of the world. It's also quite possible that this creates a culture where players are afraid to make mistakes and leads to boring, uncreative attacking rugby. And then players make mistakes anyways because the game is hard at the highest level.

I happen to think Tizzard was right to attempt the off load. Sarries were massively on top and if it had stuck they were away again. It was just poor execution, imo, and being told you’re’f**king stupid’ (iirc) won’t improve execution. The only way I’d even consider letting him off is if he is happy to be called the same when he messes up which he did a couple times despite the armchair ride, as all players will.
I suppose there’s also the possibility that it was pretty much a one off that was unlucky to be caught on camera and he’s apologised to Tizzard.
To sum it up, Ford is a better 10 and Farrell is lucky to get so many caps despite obvious limitations
