He's very solid but our hooker is more creative.

The forwards are getting carried away with their individual superiority. There is no connect. Some joined-up thinking might lead to joined-up play.

I've not understood the criticism of Coen previously but I've only watched him in this 6N. From what I've seen he is useful. The SH today is not.

"England excellent at milking penalties" - yeah, a Welshman where the English SH should be is hardly milking
"Terrible mustaches" - there's the excellent U20 commentary we're listening to

I think we came out firing, felt that they were well on top (valid), had a few try scoring oppordenied by luck, but the feeling seemed to be that more scores were inevitable.
Score was level, or 1 score up, but we were playing like we'd secured the TBP, and we're 3 scores up.

It's a tough mindset thing when you feel well on top, you're playing well, but you look at the scoreboard and it's just not reflected.
Unforgivable for that to conti use after HT though.

The England attack has just been piss poor. The passing, timing and handling has all been shockingly poor. Not sure how Coen is still out there.

Kane James as well. Surely we have a better option at 8.

Wales deserved the win. We deserved the defeat. But that ref was simply not competent - his appointment was a disgrace.

Disappointing watch this. England were shite, the commentators were shite and so was the ref. Fair play to Wales they were the better team, most notably at 10 though somehow the poor sod with all the strapping hobbling through the final quarter didn't get man of the match.

I've no idea the ref's reputation before today, but he's been even worse than the commentators.

The obvious frustration from both sets of players show that no-one could work out what he was thinking today.

Not biased, just... terrible today.

Hopefully the bloody nose we need to sort a few things out! I think Mapletoft has made some very poor decisions this tournament. I will bang on about Ollie Davies cause it really fucks me off that we decide to play two rank average tens when there is a talent like Davies waiting to play. Not playing Lilley has the same ring to it, for most of the tournament that is. Backrow since Pollock dropped out is horribly imbalanced. Half backs injuries are tough to take.

Only watched the last 15 minutes, but did I genuinely see the ref **forget** that he was playing penalty advantage until there was a long wait for a scrum and the TMO reminded him?!

Also, just saw this on Facebook - the turn of phrase, "our first try of the night," has aged somewhat poorly.

I fully appreciate there are many many more posters here that know more but from what I have seen this defeat was always just a game a way

Thats pretty much it.

Our attacking play just wasnt remotely good enough with far too many errors and poor options.

Very disappointing.

We’ve been drawn with South Africa, Australia and Scotland in the JWC!

That’s the worst I’ve seen England U20s play for some time. And fair play to Wales - in the second half they got their stuff together and fairly beat us. Really good peformance by their whole team.

It is also the worst refereeing performance I’ve ever seen. And that includes local club games!

And finally, the worst and least knowledgeable commentators - did they just find a couple of Welsh lads outside the stadium and give them mikes?!

I agree with all that. Had they played to their best as a team, our players should have won comfortably.

The irony about the crappy commentators is that they were spot-on in one area: the woefully sub-standard referee. In particular, at the breakdown, they correctly suggested that his dithering introduced a real danger of injury to players. For that reason alone he should never referee at this level again.

Incidentally, he was equally poor to both sides and his two assistants were also out of their depth. One example was a fair challenge for a high ball that the referee originally ruled on correctly only to change his decision on an incorrect intervention by a touch judge. Judgement and authority were both completely lacking. The silly sod could not even blow his whistle loudly enough. The process for his appointment should be investigated. Those involved were lucky that no serious injury resulted from his incompetence.

Its quite incredible that the ref got the appointment. Plainly he was inadequate.

This level of rugby deserves good officiating. Its not just kids having a lark. This is serious, full on stuff that needs to be properly managed.

Quite. I don't even know what nationality he is. The appoinment system needs looking at.
