Pick of the quarters, rackon? Thought the wallaroos seemed the pick of the second placed teams.

Probably - and it's still unlikely to be close.
This is the stage where the big teams will be wanting to concentrate, cut out the unforced errors, tighten discipline, and put markers down by subjecting the 2nd place teams to bigger defeats than they suffered against their pool leaders earlier (possibly exception of France, who don't typically care about such things - though their match against RWC went against that grain).

Saying that, Canada will be doing very well to put a bigger beat-down on Aus than England managed.

I've always thought Australia might make a breakthrough because the women's NRL is a good standard, but normally a bit disappointed in them. A hammering by England, a draw with USA and a win against Samoa doesn't suggest they've beem great, but I've only seen highlights of those games. Am I being unfair?

Theyve played around about par for themselves.
Maybe a little lower against USA, who in turn played a little above, it otherwise exactly as expected.

They may make a breakthrough at some stage, but expecting them to do better than losing a QF would be expecting too much of them.

It's early days of professionalism everywhere, with England slightly ahead of the rest. It's going to take time to settle down and come out in the wash.

I'm not sure if I'm betraying my Brit heritage by "supporting" Australia, or confirming my Brit heritage by supporting the underdog?

Great performance so far, off to think that they've missed out on 15+ points. Aussie not given much to work with at all.

Yup, NZ and Canada have both shown an extra gear today, though only NZ were challenged to do so.

SFs are looking fascinating, and both impossible to call based on performances to date (assuming England v France in SF2)

Canada looking very good. That pack was formidable.

Time for England to step up.
