There's a lot of Gloucester players in there, who will presumably fail to make the step up to full international honours - that or discover a Welsh granny

Are we expecting a few more to join up post Champions Cup weekend? There's a few clubs likely to be fielding second teams this weekend that might see opportunities.

Yeah, it came from the old sports and social club the bank had. When I played for HMRC (yes the tax man has a rugby team; well a team used to come together a couple of times a year to play against other civil servants) we played them a couple of times.

Some very good prospects across the squad. Lots to be excited about, not least because there's a whole load who haven't been picked that you should also be excited about. Such as Patrick Hogg or Alan Poku.

And that is whilst taking out Lucas Friday, Noah Caluori, Jack Cotgreave, George Pearson and also Ollie Davies and Elliot Williams who are staying with their clubs.

A few thoughts across the squad:

Loosehead
Oliver Scola (Northampton Saints, Old Northamptonians RFC, 9 caps)
Returnee from last year. Fair to say he struggled a bit in the scrum, as England did in general. Tough after such a successful front row the two seasons before. Started the season on loan at Bedford, before playing Prem Cup for Saints. Then a quick tasting at Cambridge, before playing off the bench in the last two Prem rounds. Looks a markedly different player in the tight to last year, when to be fair he was in his first year out of school.

Oliver Spencer (Sale Sharks, Harrogate RUFC, uncapped)
Yorkshire Academy pathway into Sale’s Senior Academy. An England U18 graduate, getting the nod in the U20s ahead of Saracen’s Alan Poku! Highly rated at Sale.

Hooker
Jerold Gorleku (Harlequins, Twickenham RFC, uncapped)
Very highly rated hooker, who can play across the front row. Recently capped in the England U19 game. Absolute standout for England U18s last year.

Jimmy Staples (Harlequins, Worthing Rugby Club, uncapped)
Unlucky to be in the same school year as Tuipolotu, but boy did he (and Alfie Longstaff) push him hard through school rugby. Very dynamic, but with a good core to his game. The senior hooker in the squad.

Tighthead
Ollie Streeter (Harlequins, Haywards Heath RFC, 2 caps)
Made his Prem debut for Quins as an 18 year old in May, before heading off to the JWC. Played Prem Cup and one Prem game this season. Yet another very well thought of tighthead coming through!

Sonny Tonga’uiha (Northampton Saints, Old Northamptonians RFC, uncapped)
The name is an obvious one. Following dad’s footsteps, albeit in the white of England. On loan at Bedford this season, coming off the bench for them. A couple of Prem Cup appearances.

Harry Wright (Gloucester Rugby, Alcester, uncapped)
And another talented tighthead. Got an U19 cap in the recent game, starting ahead of Diamond Ayiehfor, who also doesn’t make this squad. Been playing BUCS rugby with Hartpury.

Lock
Aiden Ainsworth-Cave (Northampton Saints, Bedford Junior Blues, 9 caps)
Highly experienced returnee. Can play lock or back row. Been playing BUCS rugby with Uni of Bath.

Jonno Balding (Gloucester Rugby, Overton RFC, uncapped)
Absolute specimen! Been through all the age grades as one to keep an eye on. Also playing BUCS, with Bristol this time. Very talented young man!

Freddie Ogden-Metherell (Gloucester Rugby, Lydney RFC, uncapped)
Another in BUCS rugby, this time Hartpury. Very highly thought of. Slightly in Balding’s shadow, but then he is fucking massive. Thoroughly deserving of his place.

Ethan Surrey (Bristol Bears, Barkers Butts RFC, uncapped)
Second year out of school. Didn’t make the U18 team in his last season of school, despite being around the squad. Ex of Wasps Academy.

Backrow
George Bolam (Newcastle Red Bulls, Horden & Peterlee and Durham City RFC, uncapped)
First chance at age grade rugby for Bolam. Wasn’t really on the England radar in a very competitive position, but has come on leaps and bounds. Very highly rated at Newcastle. Guy pepper MkII

George Marsh (Leicester Tigers, Holt RFC, uncapped)
Powerful No.8. Really strong at U18s. Very good over the ball, and an explosive carrier. Got a run out in the Prem Cup.

Olly Allport (Gloucester Rugby, Stow-on-the-Wold RFC, uncapped)
Real nuggety back row. Seriously good over the ball and very dynamic in the loose. One Prem Cup appearance for the seniors so far.

Connor Treacey (Bath Rugby, New Milton Rugby Club, 7 caps)
Experienced returnee in the back row. Can play across all three positions. Very dynamic. Another Uni of Bath BUCS player, with one Prem Cup appearance this season.

Tate Williams (Harlequins, East Grinstead RFC, uncapped)
Rangy No.8. Similar to Ilione in build type. Highly rated. Yet another Uni of Bath player, with a couple of Prem Cup substitute appearances in the bag.

Scrum Half
George Newman (Exeter Chiefs, Truro RFC, uncapped)
One of a pack of good scrum halves coming out of last years U18s, along with Stewart-Harris and Isaac Mears, who doesn’t make this squad.

Asa Stewart-Harris (Saracens, Old Albanians, uncapped)
Former back there player who moved to scrum half in his 6th form years. Absolute live wire!

Jonny Weimann (Northampton Saints, Royston Rugby Club, 6 caps)
The experienced 9 of the group, both at U20s and senior levels. Played a few first team games last season and another this, along with Prem Cup and loan spells at Bedford.

Fly Half
Luke Davidson (Saracens, Michaelhouse, uncapped)
South African who signed for Sarries senior academy out of school. Has performed well with Ampthill on loan over the last two seasons.

Finn Keylock (Saracens, Marlow RUFC, uncapped)
Versatile flay half, come fullback, come centre. Very highly rated player. Has played the last 6 rounds of Champ rugby for Ampthill starting the last four and playing a full 80 in all of them. Three of those at 10 and one at 15. Getting seriously good reviews down at the mob!

James Linegar (Bath Rugby, Chippenham RFC, uncapped)
THE fly half coming out of last years U18s. Signed professional terms with Bath as a 17 year old Lower 6th former! Injuries thrust him into the Prem Cup team at the start of the season. Otherwise it’s been BUCS for Uni of Bath.

Centre
Ollie Batson (Exeter Chiefs, Exmouth RFC, uncapped)
Amazed Nick Lilly is not in this squad. Unless he’s injured that is. Would have been great to see an Exeter centre pairing, Batson is in inside centre, who made the bench for Exeter’s Challenge Cup game against Racing92, though he stayed there collecting splinters. Very good all round skill set. Has been playing BUCS for Exeter Uni. Started the U19 game at 12 recently.

Finlay Cunnison (Harlequins, Chobham RFC, uncapped)
Never capped at U18s, but a big presence in Quins U18 side last season. Bowling ball of a centre, with a good set of hands on him too.

Kesena Izu (Leicester Tigers, Wymondham RFC, uncapped)
Wing or centre. Also never capped at U18s. Currently at Leicester Lions.

Will Knight (Gloucester Rugby, Longlevens RFC, 4 caps)
Played in the JWC as a school kid last season ad still only 18. Played 8 times for Gloucester this season across Prem, Prem Cup and Europe.

Henry Lumley (Northampton Saints, Bury St. Edmunds, uncapped)
Made his Prem debut, whilst still at school last season. Been on loan at Cambridge this season, as well as some Prem Cup games for Saints and one Prem appearance. He and Will Knight fought like cats and dogs overt the starting 13 shirt for England age grades.

Toby Wilson (Sale Sharks, Macclesfield RUFC, uncapped)
Second year out of school rugby. Was around the U20 EPS last season.

Victor Worsnip (Bristol Bears, Bank of England RFC, uncapped)
Very highly rated centre. Can play 12 or 13 equally well. M<ade his U19 debut the other week at 13 outside Batson. Very talented lad!

Back three
Tyler Offiah (Bath Rugby, Ealing Trailfinders, 3 caps)
Shouldn’t need any real introduction. Second season out of school. Three Prem Cup games for Bath and otherwise more Uni of Bath BUCS rugby

James Pater (Northampton Saints, Shelford RFC, uncapped)
One word. Rapid! Made his debut in the same game as Lumley, albeit off the bench, but like Lumley was still at school at the time. Prem Cup games and one bench appearance for the first tea, Scored a hat trick for Cambridge in the first game of 2026.

Sam Winters (Bath Rugby, Henley Hawks, uncapped)
There was a young lad who played anywhere in the back three, who went to Harrow School and was part of the London Irish academy. He could score from anywhere. His name is Henry Arundell. Sam Winters is basically another one with the same pathway! Joined Bath with the demise of Irish. Spent most of his final season at school injured. A player who just seems to have more time than everyone else. Proper talent!

It is. For me, the worst are the clubs. Some are great at covering U17 upwards and info on what senior academy players are doing, loans spells etc. Most are fucking awful! England Rugby themselves are shite in the main. You'll find out England squads from the clubs celebrating their junior players inclusion rather than it being released by England Rugby.

If you know the clubs usually affiliated to Prem clubs you just have to go searching across their news and team sheets to get some insight, but it's a bloody slog and a half. Like Caldy and Sale RFC for Sale, as an example. or Leicester Lions, Nottingham and Loughborough for Tigers. There are more for each club. Much like with the senior squad, there is little to nothing in terms of injury / availability updates. If a player in the senior academy is not featuring it could be for any number of reasons and fans are largely left to guess. Injured, not good enough / big enough yet, on loan at some random club this week having been at a different one last week, travelling reserve etc.

NextGenXV do a great service in this space, as do some of the schools and Unis. BUCS is good to be fair. More and more live coverage is available for schools and uni and the standard is really good. They're genuinely enjoyable games of rugby too. It is where you can pick up a lot, cause you can see the players in action.

What really exacerbates it for me is that we've got an absolute conveyor belt of players coming through. Better than I've ever seen in terms of ability and consistency across positions. And yet hardly anything out there on any of them.

Agree 100% on all of this. So many times i'll go to a club's website to find out a bit more about a young player who might have been inculded in an England age-grade squad, and... nada. Or if there is, there's just a squad photo with no bio/stats etc. If you think about how football treats up-and-coming-players i.e. countless "wunderkid" lists, complilation videos etc. Rugby is miles behind.

I also played there some time ago. It was heavily subsidised by the bank and it was a good fixture. The best by a long shot though was BA silver wings. Fed and watered until you had to be carried home. All at no cost :|

It is. Even at the most basic level, their club website having a biography. Nothing major. Maybe date of birth, height and position. Even just that!!

Thanks for the rundown EP.

Lots of uncapped players at u20 level so its going to be interesting to see who steps up.

Think we might have some good options at centre with Knight, Worsnip and Batson.

Is Glos hooker Freeman-Price injured? As a 2007 born he actually would still be eligible for next year.

Probably 3rd choice, and likely wanted by his club with their injury woes. And yes eligible for next year too.

It's a pain in the arse tbh - we've lost about 3-4 players from our 3rd XV to having tickets to that bloody game!

I'm surprised Pearson is available for this one. Must be a good sign that Steward is fit for Tigers. He's a classy option at such a young age.

Front row and second row are really good. Backrow is weird. Swapping Williams and Treacey would make more sense. I'd also swap Ainsworth-Cave with Hogg personally. They'll struggle against more experienced and older men. Quite a bench to unleash. It's a bit of a wrecking crew!

The backline is pretty delicious. Not a massive fan of Davidson, but it is a warm up. Swap him for Linegar and it's properly exciting! That said Davidson is a better 10 prospect than either Bellamy or Coen were. Lumley and Knight are two belting prospects. They're both better suited to 13, but Knight has the versatility to play 12. Winters and Pater in the back three is danger personified! Backs bench is chocked full of proper talent!

Youngsters lose 45 v 17. Will have done them good playing against an older and more experienced team.
