Good away win for Ospreys

Post by ALunpg »

A succesful trip to Lyon for the Ospreys 31 to 13 and a hatrick for young Giles. He is certainly exiting to watch and a handful for defences to keep a handle. Still very early doors in his career but he is a breath of fresh air . Jonathan Spratt made a welcome return to the regional side and showed a bit of form that he had a few years back.
The match is on you tube.but commentry is in French. I do however wonder if there is local TV coverage why the Welsh channels dont get it fed . Sky or BT dont want these games , but Blues, Dragons and Ospreys fans would enjoy a match of a welsh region being available.

Yep, I don't understand why we can't get this on TV at all. Surely it would be better to sell the TV rights for something, however small. This match is at least as interesting to me as the Ospreys vs Zebre in the Pro12.

If Giles keeps this up he'll be in the squad for the 6N. If he can avoid injury he's going to be something special if he's this good so young.

I hope he doesn't make the Wales squad. You look at Prydie and Daff Howells and I don't think it did them any favours getting called up so soon. Let him get more game time with the O's.

Giles looks good. Defense was a bit weak. How does he look against more solid defenders?

It was a great win for the O's especially with the team they put out.

I dread to think what kind of team they will put out against the Dragons next week, unless Wales release some back. Even then they won't have had any preparation time.

There are only two second rows available, only two back row I think, one of which is McCusker. No fly halves, Dan Evans or Matevasi will have to cover, which will leave them short at either centre or fullback.

If Bearman still playing? He may be the third back rower...
They have no room for further injury at 10 and 15, with Matavesi and Evans.
They have 2 scrumhalves: Habberfield and Leonard
At centre they have 3, I think: John, Spratt and Beck.
Wingers they have 4: Walker, Howells, Grabham and Giles.
Difficult times... it's always the case, but Sam Davies's elevation to the squad is the real problem (but not really a surprise... he could have been called for last year's 6N to be honest).

True, I'd forgotten about Bearman. With him and McCusker, hopefully they'll have planned ahead and got another zimmer frame!
Beck and John would be ok at centre although I thought John was injured or carrying a knock. I guess those two with Matevasi at 10 would be better than trying to replace Evans at fullback. The only other possible full back they have is Howells I think.

They may as well call up Dan Evans and be done with it.

Looks like the national selectors learnt a lot from those failures then..  Let the lad enjoy the Ospreys and look again at the 6 nations if needed. Hopefully a few such as Giles , Davies and Walker will be released back.

I was also going to say Habberfield is getting better as he gets more game time better decisions and kicking... not great but improving . Anyone know when is that other centre arriving ?

No surprise. This kid has huge potential, I just hope early exposure to team Wales doesn't ruin him.

BBC have it slightly different. Giles, along with Keddie, Leon Brown and Rhun Williams, have not been called up but rather "invited to train" with team Wales.

Fonotia played over the weekend in the semi finals of the ITM cup. They won so he's got the final next week I think and I guess will head straight over.

I'm surprised Rhun hasn't had any opportunities for the Blues yet as I thought he looked top notch last season. I wonder why Brown has been invited to train ahead of Dillon Lewis.
