Jenkins, Baldwin, Francis, AWJ, Charteris, Warburton, Tipuric, Moriaty
Smith, Owens, Lee, Davies, Faletau (or King), 9 ?? Ll Williams as truly awful, who else do we have ?, S Davies, Giles..why not.

Gethin, Baldwin, Lee
AWJ, Chart
Warbs Moriarty Tips
Davies Davies
JD2 Scott (yes, that way around)
North! Sanjay ½p
Smith, Owens, Francis, King, ???, Biggar, Amos, Giles
I guess ??? has to be Ll Wms, but I reckon Tomos Williams or Tom Habberfield could do a better job.
The 4/4 reps split reflects my desperation to see some options in attack, and King can cover the whole back five.
Seeing as JD2 clearly has a brief to kick anyway, I would like to see us experiment with him at "2nd five"; Jamie offers nothing the Boks don't like.
Baldwin and Sam D have to be rewarded IMO. Davies isn't just taking the ball to the line better than Biggar ATM, he also kicks for space better than anyone else in Wales. But I know Biggar will get the nod and I'm fine with that.

Totally agree with Habberfield, can't be any worse.
I can see the team announcement now and I don't think we will be happy, although I'd love to be wrong.
I'd like to see Sam Davies start with Biggar in the bench. Jamie replaced by Scott Williams and north back for cuthbert.
A backrow of Warburton, Tipuric and Moriarty. I'm not convinced by Warburton at blindside, but until Faletau returns he is our best option. And AWJ as captain. I watched Warburton on Saturday and he seemed to do little to grasp the team or influence the situation.

But i beleive he will put Roberts on the bench not Giles.
I agree about Warburton ...he struggled Saturday, I dont think he understood the plan..but ..who did?
We need a win to steady us to get into top 8 for the WC draw that is about the best we can get out of this autumn debacle. We need to be pragmatic and restore the basics otherwise it will be carnage.
It may not remove Howler right now , but that is something the WRU needs to grasp after these matches..
Right now I dont care how we win..just win because it is clear with Howley and McBryde in place ..they can not impart their strategy ( whatever it is ) to the players.

I'm fairly agnostic about Baldwin v Owens and Francis v Lee.
With Biggar I just don't see us making enough try-scoring chances, so it's Sam for me.
Would prefer AWJ to be captain, agree that Warbs didn't show a whole lot of leadership when we were falling apart against Japan.
Of course the real team will have Biggar, Roberts and probably Scott instead of Giles on the bench, and Warbs as captain.

Yes I share your concern ..my hope is that it wont be ...but I do feel a seige mentality backlash as a response to the lack of clarity in getting the message clear to the players.
For sure I am under no illusion that we will be hard pushed to get a win whatever team we select. But for sure this is not the Bokke side of a year ago.. it is a match up of two teams not at peak fighting fitness and that gives us a chance .whatisthejava wrote: Think u will be lucky to get the win, both teams don't look like they have a game plan but those Saffer boys just like at the RWC will be desperate to get the win back , 80 mins of books smashing everything that moved

England won the WC in 2003 but at the expense of a lasting team that could offer continuity, Scotland after 99,
For to long the starting 15 for Wales could be guessed months out and unless you were unlucky to be a fringe player you were safe, a few years ago Warburton, Lydidate, Cuthbert, 1/2p, Roberts and Davies were electric but now it feels like they know their position is safe if they toe the party line and therefore play safe, don't make mistakes and hope that the opposition do something stupid or they manage to conjure an individual piece of magic.
Lots of good players in Wales but id like to see some big shake up, for me id drop Warburton in favour of Tuperic, bring in Shingler, Jake Ball, Patchell, and tell that that if they get the win hey are ahead of the others ,
I have also found it totally bizarre how often it seems Welsh first XV players seem to be constantly injured for their region and then magically a few weeks before game time they get fit again and walk back into the team

I think Lydiate is a must against the boks, otherwise our backrow will be giving away about 2-3 stone on the flanks.
What I don't want to see is us trying to move the ball away from the Boks without gaining some momentum first, this seems to be the major issue with our attack at the moment, we don't get the oppositiojn going backwards before we try and go wider, we don't seem to have the requisite ball carriers for this.
When is Faletau back?

This was from the Fail online
Edwards: We hope Gethin Jenkins’ shoulder recovers, he’s one of the greatest players Wales have had. We will be picking from strength this week (Taulupe Faletau and Ken Owens are available).
Not sure if that was a comment from Edwards or the papers interpretation.

Cuthbert or Roberts will be selected there are varying opinions on Lydiate. 1/2p and JD2 are worth their place , Warburton is for sure not match fit. Shingler on form is very good but not ahead of the rest imho . Patchell will replace 1 of the 3 10's for the 6N Jake Ball is one of the many 2nd rows there or there abouts and may be on the bench , and the argument for Tips is eternal

I've often wondered if Roberts had played at outside centre with a playmaker at 12 whether we could have produced a more creative back line. I guess we will never know now.Sourdust wrote:Gethin, Baldwin, Lee

Faletau cannot be match fit. That would be a massive gamble. Tipuric has to start for me, no Lydiate at all and Toby on the bench.Numbers wrote:If Faletau is available then I reckon he has to start, I'd have a backrow of him, Warburton and Moriarty.ALunpg wrote:This was from the Fail online

Let's face it, it will be a dire game, and win or lose I am, for the first time in my life, struggling to care.

Re: Wales v SA...your team
Whatever the selection, the players are battling against a coaching ethos that seems confused. Our nod to a wider, more fluent attack is to let lone ball carriers run at defences slightly wider, keeping the same telegraphed style but with slower recycling times. I did wonder if we were making genuine progress vs the All Blacks in the first 2 tests, where we seemed to have some good ideas. But the horror show of the last few weeks has shown up the lack of ideas.
Last time we loaned Gatland to the Lions we had just won a grand slam. Now, he has cleared off on a season long sabbatical whilst we are in the midst of a major change (allegedly) in playing philosophy. Howley is struggling and something needs to change. All coaching teams need a refresh and whilst a very good coach can last for a long time and keep credibility, they need fresh voices around them, or else need to be very receptive to change.
The WRU have made a huge mistake in extending the coaching team as a unit. To get rid now will cost, but perhaps it will be a price worth paying compared to a loss in interest by the Welsh public. A dismal six nations could easily lead to a half full stadium, which will hit the game where it hurts.

Faletau at 70% is better than any of the other options at 8 other than Moriarty, if he is in contention for selection then he must be nearer 90%, can you ever remember him having a bad game either after returning from injury or otherwise, he along with AWJ are by far our most consistent performers, I'm still not seeing Tipuric being as effective against a big Boks pack.joshfishkins wrote:Faletau cannot be match fit.
