I can't really praise him enough. One of my favourite ever players. Really sounds like a great guy from what he says in this article too.

Re: Lamont to retire
I'll miss seeing him on the pitch but he's been pretty honest - he has no pace anymore. His peak unfortunately coincided with some of the darkest days for the Scotland team but nonetheless he produced some superb performances and I'm grateful for the memories. Glad to hear he will be going into coaching.

Great professional. A pre knee injury Lamont would be pretty handy in this backline opposite Seymour.

Good player and I've always admired his dedication and committment to the cause. He's also been a great asset for Glasgow over the past few seasons.

Re: Lamont to retire
A player I grew to admire and rate a lot more after injuries slowed him ironically. When he first broke through he used to drive me mental with the number of times that he dropped or knocked the ball on. He looked like am athlete that couldn't play rugby and the blond hair didn't help. After that bad injury though when he lost a step and started to pick much better lines, including the occasional stint in the centers I think he became a better player. Still in some ways a case of what might have been but a good career all the same.

Always liked him. He had good pace when he was at his peak, and was always a tough nut. I remember a few seasons ago in a match against Wales - Roberts, the Wales centre was put clean through with nobody between him and the Scottish line. Lamont overhauled him with ease to save the try (of course Jamie Roberts may not have been the fastest thing on two legs !)
Lamont's brother Rory, at his best, was a good player too before injury ended his career.
