How will this work with the whole English votes for English laws thing? Well they even have a majority without their Scottish and NI MPs?

Will the EU be a bit more bullish now, knowing that she is hugely weakened? Can she get a vote through parliament? I don't think she can.
But what if she can't? My understanding is that if we don't agree a deal, we are still leaving anyway. A second referendum in the UK doesn't mean much if there is no offer on the table to offer the electorate if the PM can't get something through parliament.
What a complete mess.

That's actually quite an interesting point. Watch out for lots of back-pedalling on what the scope of this is.Zhivago wrote:How will this work with the whole English votes for English laws thing? Well they even have a majority without their Scottish and NI MPs?

There are 533 English MPs. The Tories have 21 Celtic MPs, which would leave them with 297. That would leave them with a majority of 60 odd for English votes, depending on how the final London seat ends up.Zhivago wrote:How will this work with the whole English votes for English laws thing? I see Theresa's latest soundbite is "let's get back to work".
Work she could easily have been getting on with already were it not for some fucktard's decision to call a snap election.

There are 40 Welsh MPs, so even if they were all opposition, it wouldn't make a huge difference on paper.Zhivago wrote:But what about votes which include the Welsh MPs...Sandydragon wrote:There are 533 English MPs. Only a vote which excluded NI MPs would cause a problem.

Looks like the gormless Theresa May misread the younger vote, who had left their safe spaces to respond to Brexit. Great to see it being insufficient to get the left back in, and better still, it means the DUP will be in a position to curtail shinner skullduggery oop north!
SNP lose seats too, meaning Jimmy Kranky's dreams of sweaty independence will have to be put on hold.

Perth was about 20 votes and between 2 constituencies in Glasgow around 200 votes. These were snp held seats with Tories right up their arse.SerjeantWildgoose wrote:Ah but the SNP bloke in NE Fife managed to scrape over the line by 2 votes - ye wouldn't want to be his missus picking his boxers up of the bathroom floor this morning.

The big irony of the outcome in Scotland, is that all the way through the campaign, Ruth Davidson deflected all discussion about the Tory manifesto and Tory policies to talk only about Indyref2, now she's turned in an exceptional result for her party and they thank her by going into coalition with a bunch of crazies who would quite happily burn her as a witch for being a Lesbian.

Yep. I'm not a Twatterer but I believe she retweeted a blog/post/speech she made on gay marriage as the DUP tie-up was mooted.
Also, confidence and supply deal with DUP is confirmed. Will Paddy Power finally pay me?!?!?
Finally, rumours of Sinn Fein issuing court proceedings on the basis that the confidence and supply agreement contravenes the Good Friday Agreement.

Really any deal with the DUP makes Ruth more important as she could scupper any partnership

Yeah, it would. The UK Gov is supposed to be mediating in the NI political crisis. How can that be done on a neutral basis when they are dependent on support from the DUP in Westminster?Mellsblue wrote:Yep. No need for the rumoured court case then. Can you let me know the clause(s) the deal breaks?Zhivago wrote:Yeah, it would. The UK Gov is supposed to be mediating in the NI political crisis.
