It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

But do they practise karate in front of the mirror and keep iguanas as pets?

Skinny guys with beards. Whose idea was it to bring those back into fashion?

And let us not overlook the epic goatee fad  What are the dudes thinking?

These things look ridiculous on anybody but a muscle-bound Hell's Angel - :ugeek:

I remember a team came down from Wanganui to play us one time and to a man they all had mullets. & they were strutting about the place with their mullets and tats, and their missing teeth, looking so proud about their mullets, as if to dazzle and amaze. & some of them had brought their kids along - and their kids had mullets too!! We actually thought it might be a secret tactic of theirs to make us laugh so much we wouldn't be able to focus on the game. But focusing on the game had never been a particular strength of ours anyway  .

In fact, we got talking at the after-match and they turned out to be a perfectly decent bunch of guys. 8-)

There is nothing as sad looking as a fat, waddling, bald, beer-bellyed, half deaf, little old man with sagging jowls, rotting teeth, halitosis, snowstorm dandruff and coke bottle glasses, who hangs on to the pathetic, whispy, imitation of a droopy Mexican bandito mustache that he unsuccessfully attempted to grow in the 70s, and is still convinved he looks macho, interesting and irresistable to women.
He may have had a passing resemblance to Zapata when he was 19 (though probably not) but now there is something pathetic about it all. I have a mate in this mould but just don't have the heart to tell him what a clown he looks. The tack of him would make you cringe if you were not laughing yer leg off.
I suspect that some of the regulars here may fit the bill. Gwann..... stick yer hands up!

Trying to ignore the abomination of a tie (I fear it may have burned its image on to my fecking retinae), the shirt looks like it could pass muster for a Sunday brunch in the Corporals' Mess.

More disturbing appears to be the emergence of a second chin-like growth beneath that Miami Vice stubble you have going on there. Might you be trending towards a bit of lard there, Donny?

The whole package is usually built around the tache. Any regulations in the Army about growing a bandito model?

There is nothing wrong with the button-down collar per se; but only as casual wear. it is the wearing of a button-down collar with a suit - an American affectation - that is worthy of record on this thread.

The only collar that should be worn with a suit is a classic cut.

"might be trending towards a bit of lard" is a very charming way of describing my descent into middle age fatty.

I'm 43 next year, I've reached that point where life is too boring to be worrying constantly about what I eat, too busy to be a gym regular, and too settled to give a crap what others think about my physique.

Theres plenty in there for a hate/cringe thread, if you can be arsed picking it out.

I thought you may be blind , you know , unable to shave and no sense of colour coordination . Its some time since I saw a Paisley tie on a check shirt ( if ever )

However I saw you posted via Taptalk which saddens me deeply as it suggests fairly normal eyesight .
This item is being forwarded to the Fashion Police as we speak . It may be too late however .

I bought 2 paisley ties on etsy and the seller sent me a couple of free ones. Absolutely brilliant, original 70s ties, loud colours and much bigger than modern ties. I now have a different one for each day or the working week and literally could not be happier about that. Even better, my shirts dont complement the ties at all.

The fashion police will find my door barricaded, and missiles being launched!

Really, I saw a bunch of my North American friends having an entire conversation with these things last night. Not a written comment among them :o :?

I saw a bloke with that combo in the 1970s. He was wearing a brown shop coat over the top and a flat cap, and selling boiled pigs' feet in a covered market in Abergevenny, Wales.

A true fashion icon would pair a paisley shirt with a checked tie.

Get it, mine would be an affectation of Ivy League, not a formal suit.

Read my mind.
It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.
