I felt that we could have done worse playing him at outside centre for a while, given some of the players we had available at the time. Think he scored against all 3 Southern Hemisphere teams for us, breaking his ankle once after scoring the opening try v Australia.

Yep he did,

can anyone name a player since SW that has scored against all 3 SH teams while playing for Scotland

I think there is 1 but possibly 3 without googling

I think an intercept, and 2 tries in RWC
Seymour from memory

Visser Scored against NZ, but I don't know if he scored against the other big two.

must be Seymour. we haven't played the all blacks that often and we've scored very few tries against them.

I quite liked Webster. Can't believe we have got this far without anyone mentioning--dare I say it--Dan Parks.

It's Seymour. Since Webster in 2005, only 3 men have scored tries for Scotland v NZ - Visser, Cross & Seymour. Neither Visser or Cross have scored against either of Australia or South Africa.

Conversely, from 2005 onwards, Ben Smith, Julian Savea, Hosea Gear and Mils Muliaina have each scored at least one try against each of the Home Nations.

Do you mean the Dan Parks that kicked the winning points from the touchline in Dublin, by any chance.?

Aye we've not scored many v your lot. In 2008 the closest we got to scoring was a series of scrums on your 5 with a few penalties. E Murray was at the peak of his powers and your guy wasn't. Although MacIntosh must have been about 4th choice. That was about as good as it got that game. Interestingly only Ford and Barclay going at all from our team that started and Dickinson off the bench. Only some fella called Read still playing internationally for NZ but a good few playing professionally.

Feels like we hardly play NZ, only 9 times this millenium, we've played Oz and SA 13 and 14 times I think.

It is odd that we've only played you half a dozen times since 2005. I guess the other home nations have had newfangled 3 test tours to NZ but we haven't hosted you at all since 2000. Mental.

Have to remember Webster, and the other wingers on the list, played in a Scotland team that only ever got the ball out past the Inside Centre if someone dropped it.

Dan Parks is like Democracy. Terrible, but better than all the other options.

I'm not denying Dan had his moments but they were rather rare. And I didn't give him as muck flack as others. I remember somebody on this forum--or this forum's predecessor--suggesting, after Scotland got humped yet again, that Dan be towed out into the Irish Sea and sunk.

If the question is would Dan Parks get a cap today the answer is probably but he'd be lucky to get ten of them I reckon. Russell would be the obvious first choice and I'd still prefer Horne to him. He'd be in a fight with weir and Jackson for the final spot in the squad. It's pretty depressing that he got so many caps.

Scotland should hire him to teach Finn how to take dropkicks.

Ha, quite. Defenders beaten, maybe a half for the try? Passes putting someone into space, 0. Beautiful spiraling kicks, not enough to justify years of tedium.
