I guess it was like Rocky, if the underdog wins on the day. So, Rocky II.

I'd like to point out that this thread was actually about Ireland beating the Springboks in South Africa for the first time. You presumptuous fuckers.

Yes hellov - I am eating humble pie tonight, and enjoying it as though it were fillet mignon. (Eugene was also not slow to deliver a quick kick to the nads on another thread).

Still - didn't you think that Kearney's effort to tackle that AB centre for the first try was rather poor? ;)

i thought that comment was in poor taste before hand. and mean. why be mean? be nice. you can disagree with a selection without that kind of comment. a man had a different opinion to you. that's ok.

and i thought kearney was terrific tonight. he really really can catch a high ball. should be an olympic event. we'd clean up with him and zebo. tackling can be another event, henshaw enters.

Zebo's tackling has really come on this year. I would consider him a better tackler than R. Kearney now. I thought Zebo had a great game both in defence and attack. One soaring leap where he chased and caught a box kick was tremendous. And he's one of Ireland's few players with real gas. I still think he would be more of an attacking threat from FB than Kearney (and I think TOH would be too). But fair play to Kearney - he played better than his recent form would have suggested (I would stop short of describing him as terrific). The third member of the back three, Trimble, was not a threat in attack, but was his usual, reliable destructive self in defence.
It will be interesting to see if Earls is selected for the next game. If so, at the expense of whom?
I expect J.S. to stick with the same three.

i was hoping you'd address the schmidt = shit gag more, to be honest. it was a bit cheap, right?

i'd have had payne at 15 and ringrose at 13.

Yes.
It is just my unfortunate schoolboy level of humour. No real harm intended. I am sorry to have offended you on this issue.
I am deleriously happy with the Ireland win, and all credit to Schmidt for a fantastic result, and a very well-prepared team.
I will still disagree with some of his selections and game plan - e.g. I thought Ireland did kick away a bit too much possession today.
But your point is well taken.
I hope we can bury the hatchet.

cool... i wasn't offended. not my place to be.

anyway. yeah, onwards and upwards. i think your opinion on schmidt is just a little dated...in the last 6 months he has shown real courage in selection.. we would not have beaten the boks nor the all blacks without jackson, marshall, stander, furlong, dillane, bealham...and a few others. there are very few positions now where we would say we are screwed if someone is missing. are there any? we were beaten by arg without poc, sexton, sob, pom and payne. that's really tough luck.

it's not like deccie nor eddie before him were radical selectors.

Yep, I have maintained for some time that the Irish losing to Argentina last year had just as much to do with freakish bad luck. Losing 3 of those guys in the last game of the pool stages to injury was just bizarrely unlucky. Sean O'Brien on the other hand, had no one to blame but himself.
